What is your stage name
Mazz

Is there a story behind your stage name?
It stems from my nickname from when I was younger which was Mazza. Those who know me behind the mask call me Mazz so it just made sense.

Where do you find inspiration?

I am thinker and I evaluate everything that has happened to me or those around me. My inspiration comes from real-life situations

What was the role of music in the early years of your life?

I come from an African household so music is a big thing. Everyone is constantly listening to music. When I was younger I was gifted a harmonica and a djembe drum so I was always making noise.

Are you from a musical or artistic family?

Not really, I am from an athletic, sporty family e.g professional and semi-professional footballers, Professional Kickboxers etc

Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?

I wouldn’t say there was a specific person that inspires me to be a part of the industry.
I grew up watching artists from my area in Portugal and they definitely played a part. The likes of Plutonio, Redzone, Ghetto Supastars who were shining a light on our neighbourhood but the region as a whole.

How did you learn to sing/write/to play?

When I was around 8/9, Plutonio encouraged me to write songs so from then I always tried. When I was around 15/16 is when I really used to dissect other songs, look at the structure, read up lyrics and I just got familiar with writing music to specific beats

What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform?
The first and only concert I went to was to see Geko in Norwich and he was being supported by NSG at the time. I had a chat with NSG at the time and I told him I wanted to be a musician. They ended up giving me advice and just told me to go for it, which at the time, meant the world.

How could you describe your music?

Difficult question, I feel that I am very versatile and my music differs depending on my mood at the time. I would say very melodic, personal and relatable. A lot of people can relate to what I am saying because they have been in the same situation. I try to switch up my flows a lot and try to be creative so the listener does not get bored.

Describe your creative process.

Again, it depends on my mood and how I am feeling at the time. I can only write depending on how I am feeling. I cannot walk into the studio and decide the type of song I will record. When I first started I would work out the hook/chorus first as I am normally the most creative and found this the easiest/strongest part of my creative process. Nowadays, I will write the verses first but it all depends on the beat and again, how I am feeling.

What is your main inspiration?

My main inspiration has to be my family. They have supported me over the years and have been encouraging me for a while to release music. I want to be successful so I can help all my people live a better life

What musician do you admire most and why?

Lil Durk 100%. I have been listening to Lil Durk since day 1. I feel that he is pioneer and has influenced many artists. He has so many styles and his songs are relatable. Especially his pain and love songs.

Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?
Definitely, at the start I was experimenting, trying to figure out my best style. Nowadays, I do music that I love and the style that I like, if other people love it too then great!

Who do you see as your main competitor?
I don’t think I have a competitor, at the moment anyway. I feel that it is too early for me to have competitors and I wouldn’t be bothered anyway.

What are your interests outside of music?

Football, I play football several times a week.

If it wasn’t a music career, what would you be doing?

I am not sure, hopefully working in football.

What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?

Where I am situated it is difficult to network, I have to travel to the closest major city which is London. Biggest challenge is getting myself out there and showing people what I am capable of.

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?

Like most artists, better streaming rates. Ask me this in 6-12 months time and I will probably have more answers to this.

Why did you choose this as the title of this project?

I feel that it is the perfect title. It tells the listener the theme of the song. This song is obviously about love, loyalty and reassurance. Reassuring that I will never change up on the ones who were there from day 1.

What are your plans for the coming months?

The main focus is getting myself out there as much as possible. Build a core fan base and releasing the best music possible. I will aim to release several songs before the end of the year, showcasing my versatility.

Do you have any artistic collaboration plans

I only have 2 and you might hear one before the end of the year, which is one of my favourite songs so I cannot wait to show you that one. I do aim to collaborate with other artists in the future.

What message would you like to give to your fans
Thank you for being extremely patient with me. I have been working in the background and now I am ready to show you what I have been cooking. Stick with me and stay on this journey!!!
