Finding Hope, Heart, and Healing with Patti Zlaket

Patti Zlaket is blazing with her music comeback, and her latest single Second Chance At Love shows that she is only heating up. This song is the second single of a forthcoming album Dance Again following an amazing comeback to music in 2025, and it is not only intensely personal but also has a strong message. After the reissue of her remastered catalog and reconnecting with fans via tours and other new releases, Patti has made her latest work feel authentic, soulful and alive.

The most extraordinary thing about this song is its point of view. The lyrics are written as a dog, based on the experience of Patti working as a volunteer at animal shelters. The song is a perfect embodiment of the themes of resilience, healing, and rediscovering love after a difficult time, and it throws a light on the overcrowded shelters and rescue organizations that require our assistance.

The track is a power pop and soft rock filled with bright and uplifting energy that makes you move after being produced by Tariqh Akoni and including the legendary bassist, Lee Sklar, among other musicians.

Patti Zlaket has an impressive background in the field of piano, theatre, touring, commercial singing, and has even a career in legal work, so her resurgence into recording is more than inspiring. Second Chance At Love depicts an artist in a purposeful and enthusiastic groove.

“Second Chance at Love” has such a hopeful title. What inspired you to write this song, and what does a second chance at love personally mean to you?

For the last several years I’ve been volunteering at dog rescues and a local animal shelter. The resiliency and soulfulness of these animals is astounding to me. Truly, dogs just want to love us, and their intention is the purest of pure. I decided to write their story from their perspective. “Second Chance” for them means never losing faith in love and in those who can show them love. That is not always easy, but their faith in humanity inspires me to hold on to my own.

Was there a specific moment or story that pushed you to turn this feeling into music?

Spending many hours over many months with these amazing pups, watching their life stories change overnight, literally.

The song feels emotional but also uplifting. How did you balance vulnerability and hope while creating it?

Isn’t that what love is, at its core? Hopeful and vulnerable.

When you were recording “Second Chance at Love,” was there a part of the song that felt especially close to your heart?

My favorite part of the song is the bridge – the very Beatles-esque repeat of the word LOVE. I loved singing it and I love the way it feels in the song.

How does this song reflect where you are right now, both as an artist and as a person?

Ahh, “Second Chance” is the theme of my life right now! Diving into this new album has been the best kind of new beginning for me. Everything that has come with this re-entry has been more than I could have asked for. A record deal with a stellar label, touring again and finding new fans all over the map, and most importantly, making music and sharing my art, which is at the core of who I am.

What do you hope listeners take with them after hearing “Second Chance at Love” for the first time?

I hope they like it, obviously, from a musical perspective. But I also hope they feel inspired by it in whatever way is meaningful to them. Perhaps it will inspire someone to start volunteering. Perhaps it will inspire someone to take a chance on a dream they thought was out of reach. Or maybe it will just inspire the idea that hope never dies. And love is always within our reach.

Many people fear starting over in love. What would you say to someone who is afraid to open their heart again?

My mottos are, “You never know until you try,”  “The worst someone can say is no,”  AND “There is no deadline on dreams coming true.” The one thing you can guarantee if you never take a chance is that nothing will change. But if you take that chance, you may be opening a door to joy you never thought possible. I’m living proof of that.

How does this song differ from your previous work, and what does it reveal about your growth as an artist?

I was very fortunate to work with a particularly special group of musicians on this record. Herman Matthews (drummer for Tower of Power and Tom Jones), Leland Sklar (known for his work with James Taylor, Phil Collins, and Linda Ronstadt), Tariqh Akoni (MD to Josh Groban), and Jon Gilutin, who’s worked with Aretha Franklin and Lady Gaga, among many others. Needless to say these are heavy-hitters, and playing with people who are just so good brings out the very best in me as a musician and as an artist. I feel this is my best work, to date, and I’m just getting started!

If “Second Chance at Love” were the soundtrack to a movie scene, what kind of moment would it play over?

While this song works on a very human level too, I think it would be a great fit for a movie featuring dogs––there are many great and moving ones out there. When a dog finds their forever home, you can see their spirits shift. They look healthier, happier (they even smile!), and they can finally relax in the knowledge that they have found their people and they are safe. I’d love to hear this song played over a film showing those moments.

What can fans expect next from you after this beautiful release?

Another single is on the way, and the album, Dance Again, will be released in the spring. Lots of shows in the works, too. This will be an exciting year, and this single kicks things off in a happy way.
