Love Loss: Chet Nordy Turns Relationship Pain Into Music

Chet Nordy’s thoughtfulness about the way relationships are done today is evident in “Love Loss. The track takes us through the suffering of an imbalance in the relationship, with one person giving and the other person looking elsewhere. Any real relationship for Nordy is about compromise and commitment, making this song’s message so personal.

The heart of “Love Loss” is piano, which provides the foundation and creates the feeling of inevitability from the opening bars. Nordy states that it is the first song that he has written in which the piano is the main drive of the song, which adds significance in his musical path.

Josh Paulino’s vocals are also very emotional. His harmonies and strong delivery help to bring Nordy’s original vision to life, enhancing the bond between the lyrics and the music.

It’s also a testament to Nordy’s patience as a composer and producer. He had an idea for a song, but it didn’t work out as planned, so he took a break, and when he came back it was exactly as he had thought.

In essence, “Love Loss” is a testament to the power of connection, respect, and compassion. Nordy hopes it will make people think about how they are not alone and how they deserve to be cared for.

“Love Loss” explores the painful reality of a toxic relationship. What inspired you to tell this particular story through music?

-The song “Love Loss” was inspired by seeing what I interpret the way society treats relationships now days. So, I sat down and wrote my thoughts on a piece of paper it then manifested itself into the beginning sounds of ‘Love Loss”

The song focuses on one person giving everything while the other is searching for something better. What do you want listeners to understand about this kind of unbalanced relationship?

-The Idea of being in a relationship like this hurts my soul.   I believe relationships should be a 50/50 split.  There may be times when I must give 97% or 100% to help my significant other through a moment in time, but there will also be times when my significant other needs to give more than she may receive.  Compromise and commitment are core values to me in anything I do.

The title “Love Loss” carries a strong emotional weight. How did you arrive at the title, and what does it mean to you personally as a composer?

-When I was coming up with the melody for the chorus those two words just stuck out to me, and I decided then and there that “Love Loss” was going to be the name of this track.   Personally, and as a composer, I think what is going to resonate most with an audience.  In this case, I believe everyone at some point in their life will go through a “Love Loss” in one way or another.

The song features beautiful piano arrangements that help bring out its emotional side. How important was the piano in shaping the mood and story of the track?

– The piano is the heart and soul of this track.  Deep root notes in the intro give it a haunting excitement that I thought would draw people in.  The piano on this track was my favorite instrument to play in this song.  It is also the first song that I have ever written that the piano was the foundation of the song.  So this song will always hold something very meaningful to me.

Josh Palino provides the vocals on “Love Loss.” What made Josh the right vocalist for the song, and how did his performance bring your original vision to life?

-Josh Paulino is an amazing vocalist and artist.  Josh’s vocals were exactly what I envisioned.  When he sent me his first take of the vocal track for this song I was blown away.  His creative vocal harmonies tied my vision for the song together perfectly.  Josh and I are going to continue to collaborate for the foreseeable future.

You wrote, composed and recorded the track at Nordy Studios, a studio you built yourself in your basement. How has creating your own studio influenced the way you work and develop your music?

-Having a studio in my house has been great.   If I have an idea that I normally would forget I can simply go down and track it really quick.  Having a studio is making me a better musician, songwriter and producer.  I can spend late nights working on perfecting my songs without having the big price tag of renting studio time.

You describe “Love Loss” as an emotionally engaging piece. What were some of the creative decisions you made to ensure the emotion of the song came through clearly?

Song dynamics ensured the emotion of the song came through clearly.  I wanted there to be highs and lows in the song.  The tempo and flow of the song needed to be perfect to capture this as well. Having Josh Paulino belt out the notes and the piano in this song immediately exudes the emotional expression of the song. The bridge of the song quiets everything down and builds suspense for the final chorus of the song.

As a composer and producer, how do you know when a track has reached the point where it captures the emotion you originally had in mind?

This song was trial and error. “Love Loss” took many different shapes and forms both from the production side and composing.   I took a break from finishing the song because I could not get it exactly the way that I wanted it.  When I came back with a fresh mind everything then came together.  I would say patience is the biggest thing.  Taking something from scratch to create a masterpiece (in my eyes ha-ha!) takes time and patience.  Also not giving in or letting it be good enough, go the extra mile and create exactly what you envisioned.

What was the most memorable part of creating “Love Loss,” from the first idea through to the finished recording?

-The most memorable part of “Love Loss”, was seeing the transformation from idea to final product.  Being able to convey my ideas to an emotional story about struggles of relationships.  My goal for this song was just to connect with people.  If this song can help or resonate with just one person, then my job as an artist is complete.

Now that “Love Loss” has been released, what do you hope listeners take away from the song, and what can we expect next from Chet Nordy?

-I hope listeners can relate to the lyrics in the song and walk away feeling like they are not alone and deserve to be treated respectfully and with compassion and not just there to be used and abused.

-I will be releasing a new song called “Lost and Alone” on October 16,2026.   I am really excited to share this song.  Josh Paulino again, will be singing on the track. After “Lost and Alone” I think, I am going to do a EP or full album with Josh.

If my music can help put a smile on someone’s face or help them get through a rough moment in their day, then every second I get to do this is totally worth it.
