On “roads”, Michael B Kowal has stitched together memory, family, and musical discovery in his personal EP that will be released on October 11, 2026. The Baton Rouge singer-songwriter’s alternative rock, country, roots, and coastal Americana-saturated oeuvre is both honest and reflective, with a strong connection to his life experiences.
One of the most interesting aspects of the “roads” is its connection to Kowal’s history. Roads” and “Dark Sun” were early recordings even when he first started playing the guitar. His son found them and Kowal developed the original concept to complete arrangements, making these songs new and alive but maintaining their original character.

In other songs, such as “Petey’s Song”, the focus is on life as a family, and in the songs “I Surrender”, the subject is about surrendering and receiving what is given. The EP takes different moods on tracks such as “Windrush,” which is full of rock energy, and “No Words,” which is a more reflective and laid-back song.
The EP was recorded in Kowal’s own Louisiana home studio, and is a bona fide solo album — Kowal wrote and performed the songs and tracks. The music remains central, with guitar and vocals maintained as they are in the original songs.
In Roads: Thinking about movement, memories, and personal growth, Michael B Kowal offers a meditation on movement, memories, and personal growth, a reminder that sometimes, the journey is as important as the destination.
