On their poignant new single “Civilisation,” Scottish-Portuguese duo Forgotten Garden venture out from the safety of secluded wilderness straight into the glare of an unraveling world. Formed in 2019, the outfit led by Inês Rebelo and Danny Elliott has long operated at the brooding intersection of post-punk gloom and atmospheric indie folk. Joined here by guest contributor Melisa on bass, they turn their gaze squarely toward humanity’s steepest self-inflicted declines.
The track is anchored by a continuous, gently plucked cyclical progression that roots the composition while sweeping harmonic layers swell and recede in the background. Paced by a steady, deliberate percussive pulse, the music advances like a reluctant march toward catastrophe. Rather than shouting into the void, Rebelo traces our collective moral decay with somber, aching precision, laying bare the mounting toll of political dishonesty, environmental fallout, and endless war.

Unvarnished, haunting, and entirely organic, the release lingers with an uneasy, dystopian weight long after the final chord fades. Once you finally notice the rot creeping beneath the chrome, how do you ever unsee it?
