“Congratulations on the release of Dream. The song explores the space between dreams and reality in a captivating way. What inspired you to tell this story, and what does the title mean to you personally?
MILYAM: Thank you. For me, “Dream” is about that twilight zone of consciousness where our deepest truths, illusions, and vulnerabilities collide. I’ve always been fascinated by how different reality looks when we strip away the daylight and face our subconscious. Personally, the title represents a mirror. It’s an invitation to step into a space where you don’t have to pretend, where emotional shadows are allowed to exist without judgment.
Dream creates a hypnotic atmosphere with minimalist production and deeply emotional lyrics. How did you approach building the sound while making sure the emotions remained at the center of the track?
MILYAM: My voice is the absolute foundation of everything I create; it is the emotional compass of the track. When building the atmosphere for “Dream,” I approached the vocal delivery almost like a confession—leaning into intimate, breathy textures that sometimes border on a whisper. By holding that vulnerability in the performance, the vocals naturally anchor the soundscape. The goal wasn’t just to sing a melody, but to make the listener feel the weight, the gravity, and the silence between the words.
Your music has been described as blending polished production with darker, underground Art Rap influences. How do you strike that balance without losing your unique artistic identity?
MILYAM: That balance is my identity. I’ve never believed an artist has to choose between sophistication and raw emotion. I love the elegance of a polished, high-end aesthetic, but it has to have a soul—and soul often lives in the nocturnal spaces. By letting my voice carry both assertiveness and delicate intimacy, I can walk that fine line between the underground edge and a timeless, cinematic elegance without ever compromising who I am.
Dream feels like a journey through the subconscious, touching on illusion, vulnerability, and self-reflection. What emotions or experiences were you drawing from while writing the song?
MILYAM: I was drawing from the feeling of emotional wandering—those quiet, solitary moments when you question what is real and what is merely an illusion we construct to protect ourselves. There’s a specific kind of vulnerability in admitting that you are navigating internal chaos. “Dream” came from embracing that uncertainty, transforming feelings of solitude and introspection into an atmospheric journey rather than running away from them.
Your previous single, Intimacy, received praise from critics and gained international radio support. How has that success influenced your confidence and creative direction leading into Dream?
MILYAM: The response to “Intimacy” was a beautiful reaffirmation that people are hungry for music that demands patience and emotional presence. It proved to me that listeners truly connect with restrained stillness and deep vocal storytelling. That recognition didn’t change my direction; rather, it gave me the freedom to dive even deeper into my own instincts with “Dream”— to be bolder, darker and more atmospheric.
You release your work through your independent creative platform, MILYAM EMPIRE, while maintaining complete ownership of your masters and publishing. Why was it important for you to build your career on your own terms?
MILYAM: Because art without freedom loses its truth. MILYAM EMPIRE is more than just a platform; it is a family project and a shared aesthetic philosophy built with those I trust most. Owning my masters and publishing means we have absolute control over our narrative, our pace, and our creative integrity.
I never want my voice or my storytelling to be diluted by industry compromises. Building this enterprise as a family on our own terms allows me to create a lasting, authentic universe that belongs entirely to my art, my roots, and my listeners.
Your music and visual storytelling seem to go hand in hand. How does your visual creative process influence the way you write and present songs like Dream?
MILYAM: I hear music visually. Whenever I record a vocal line, I already see the lighting, the shadows, and the cinematic landscapes that surround it. The visual aesthetic—minimalist, high-end, and moody—directly dictates the emotional tone of my voice. They aren’t separate processes; the visual atmosphere and the vocal storytelling feed into each other to create one cohesive, living scene.
BBC Music Introducing, Amazing Radio, and media outlets around the world have recognized your work. How does it feel to see your music connecting with audiences across different countries and cultures?
MILYAM: It is deeply humbling, but it also confirms that emotion is a universal language. When a song like “Dream” or “Intimacy” resonates with someone in another country, it proves that atmosphere, vocal intimacy, and vulnerability don’t need translation. We all share the same midnight thoughts and subconscious journeys. Connecting with an international audience on such an intimate frequency is the greatest reward I could ask for.
Your music often carries a cinematic quality that invites listeners into another world. When someone listens to Dream for the first time, what do you hope they experience or take away from it?
MILYAM: I hope they feel like time has slowed down for a few minutes. I don’t just want them to listen to the song; I want them to inhabit it. I hope they close their eyes, feel the emotional gravity of the vocals, and find a safe, hypnotic space within themselves to explore their own illusions and desires. If it lingers in their mind long after the final note fades, then the song has done its job.
With Dream introducing another chapter in your artistic journey, what can fans expect next from MILYAM, and how do you see your sound and creative vision continuing to evolve?
MILYAM: “Dream” is just one chapter in a much larger book. You can expect the visual and sonic world of MILYAM EMPIRE to expand even further—more cinematic storytelling, more vocal depth, and a continued exploration of Art Rap and atmospheric alt-pop.
