We Are Lost As An Industry – Kelvyn Boy laments
Burniton Music Group signed act Kelvyn Boy has said that Ghana’s music industry is lost and in total darkness.
The Afrobeats artiste posited that it is necessary to have a category for Afrobeats in our awards schemes.
He emphasized that since we have the likes of Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop which aren’t ours, it’s just right to include Afrobeats.
Speaking in an interview on Luv Fm he said, “We don’t even have Afrobeats. We are lost as an industry and as a nation”.
Addressing how this issue can be solved, Kelvyn Boy indicated that Afrobeats as a genre must be fixed in awards schemes too.
“Lately songs that we jam to are Afrobeats but we nominate them in Highlife song of the year and Hiplife song of the year.
But they are Afrobeats and you say 90% Ghanaian content, that won’t work. Even if its 10% Ghanaian content and you are doing the right genre, you can’t say 90% Ghanaian content and 80% Dancehall. Where is the ‘Ghana’ in it?”
He also disclosed his boss Stonebwoy is so smart, that is why he introduced his as “Afro Dancehall” stating you can’t leave the ‘Afro’ out of it.
The Lai Lai crooner added that we as Ghanaians don’t even know the genre of music we do.
Meanwhile, Kelvyn Boy is set to release his maiden project dubbed “TIME EP” on June 21.
