Souls in Rhythm (a.k.a. SiR) takes the fundamentals of classic funk and soul, and blends them with modern R&B. Rather than being impressionists of master/classic artists of the genre, SiR has a modern sound and seeks to innovate and contemporize a musical form they love.
Canadian Musician Magazine elaborates; “smooth, soulful grooves, melody lines that stay in your head and polished vocals”, SiR’s music proudly pays homage to
tradition, while at the same time expanding boundaries.
Souls in Rhythm has found a unique niche somewhere between the pop radio crowd and the folk and roots scene, with songs as influenced as prominently by Prince and Michael Jackson as Al Green and Jerry Lee Lewis. – The Edmonton Sun
Souls in Rhythm has toured much of the nation and has opened for prominent artists such as American hip-hop icon Common, and R&B giants Boyz II Men. Dedicated to creating together, the last two years have brought countless writing sessions.
Just before the pandemic, they were honored to accept a songwriting residency at the prestigious Banff Centre, where (over the course of three weeks) they came up with a mountain of new songs over the course of three weeks. Armed with a new wealth of material, they are highly excited about their next chapter.
After the release of their sophomore (WCMA nominated) album Funklore, the band began operating nationally, touring much of the country. Soon after, they found themselves pulled in separate directions due to some tremendous individual opportunities – most notably lead singer, Scott Henderson’s involvement as music arranger/vocal coach on GlobalTV’s Canada Sings, and Spencer Cheyne’s establishment of his recording studio; whose recent clients’ recordings have been nominated for CCMA, and Juno awards, and Spencer just achieved his first platinum record – Jocelyn Alice’s Jackpot.
In 2019/2020, Scott was the associate music director for the 6-month North American tour of Queen’s We Will Rock You – playing at notable venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York, the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, and the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary.
With the release of their third record, Another Round, the band re-committed itself to writing and performing. And now with their upcoming 2022 full-length release, they are determined to transcend each member’s individual success and again elevate SiR to national prominence (…and beyond!).
In anticipation of their 2022 album, they’ve released a series of singles, most recently Kerri Kerri (April 8, 2022) – an absolute funk banger that is both about a love that got away AND a tribute to Minneapolis funk where Scott spent several years in the 90s – even spending some time recording at Prince’s Paisley Park Studios!
SiR is a funk to get into…R&B act is the real deal – Calgary Sun
With a live show that delivers “hard-hitting bass, rhythmic guitar, rock-solid drums and dancing keys, all welded together with [Scott] Henderson’s polished vocals” (Kamloops This Week), SiR will make you feel its music, inevitably ending with asses shaking on the dance floor!
SiR’s debut album, Can’t Fake the Funk, helped the band win Astral Media’s $100,000 Unsigned Vibe Songwriting Competition. Songs from SiR’s album, Funklore were included on Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 of Big Rock Brewery’s Untapped Compilation CDs, of which 100,000 copies were distributed across Canada. SiR also had a successful college radio campaign in the U.S.. this led to licensing the band’s music to several hit MTV shows.
