Had an in-depth chat with Sofia to discuss the song, her music career, and her aspirations and objectives.
What is your real and official showbiz name?
What drew you to music production in the first place?
As soon as I could sing, I wanted to create music with my own stamp on it. I had more ideas and inspiration than I had the time to jot down. As soon as I had the opportunity to get into the studio and create, I fell in love with the entire process, there’s nothing quite like it, to be honest.
I’ve evolved so much up to this point, so I’m now learning how to engineer and record my own vocals…Soon I’ll be able to fully capture and realize my ideas in real-time as they come.
What or whom do you go to for inspiration or motivation?
Easy, always mama. My mom is my idol, truly. Everything she has taught me since my childhood has proven to be my truest compass. She is like my spiritual lighthouse. If I ever sway from my path, she’s there to kick my butt and get me back on track. She’s the G.O.A.T.
What are some of the obstacles you encounter in your career?
Being an independent artist is just as tough as it is rewarding. They say anything worth having doesn’t come easy. Not having the funding or resources or even team members to be able to market the music I have properly has been a struggle.
Also, the funding to create the magnitude of visuals I envision whilst writing. But everything is on an upwards trajectory, I’m on a mission, so it won’t be long before the wheel’s not only turning but racing!
What distinguishes you as a creative individual?
I’m 100% Sofia, and I never ever would want to be anyone else. I’m bold and daring and I always stay true to myself, lyrically, musically, vocally, and visually, even if and especially when my method is unorthodox. I speak my truth, I’m not afraid to speak my mind and stand up for what I believe in. I am professional when needed but boy do I enjoy being a kid to the max.
What’s the significance of the current song or album in your life?
My upcoming single “Lone Wolf” hits home especially hard right now. It’s a record dedicated to the path of solitude one must undertake in pursuit of greatness. Facing betrayals and backstabs, those who won’t understand you, losing the ones not meant for you and solidifying how to stay true to you.
What are you working on at the moment?
SOOO much haha, but to list some of la crème de la liste…
We are in pre-production for the “Lone Wolf” music video, finishing up and entering into some doooope collabs with some international artists, from rap to acrobats to the Hindi version of my song, and now working on my album for 2023.
What are your plans for the year ahead?
An album, with an attached visual experience and working towards a physical world tour.
