Ralphy Reveals Her Music Life And Premieres Her New Single “Confess Unplugged”

Ralphy‘s first album, ‘PeaceLover‘ debuted in 2016 with her song ‘Lover‘ a passionate prelude to the album’s title track. Now, as an independent pop phenomenon in LA, she has gotten an incredible reaction to her heart-pounding songs and electrifying performances.

Ralphy’s most noticeable Ralphy trait is her simmering, sensual vocals, but her spectacular live concerts are what have truly made her a stage siren. When it comes to capturing the genuine essence of performance, Ralphy’s dynamic choreography and high-fashion dance style accomplish the job well.

We learn a lot about her music career and the new album she just released in this interview.

What is your real name?

Rachel Murphy

What’s your official Showbiz name?

Ralphy. It’s a mashup of both of my names

How did you get into music?

My mum and dad always had music playing around the house. I also started ballet dancing at the age of three I feel like I’ve always been surrounded by lots of different music.

What field or genre are you into and how would you describe it?
I love all different types of music and I think that reflects in my own music although I do get very inspired by 80s synth-pop I think you can definitely hear that influence in my music.

What were your first project and the people you worked with and which year?
Omg, I have been listening to music, performing and dancing I feel like my whole life, I couldn’t even begin to tell you what my first project was or who I worked with. There have been many amazing different people over the years. I love collaborating with people.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why?
I have so many people that inspire me and motivate me I surround myself with creative people.

I also live in Los Angeles where it’s just a smorgasbord of talent and inspiration also obsessed with David Bowie, Madonna, Goldfrapp, Freddie Mercury, Cher and Harry styles to name a few ( I like people that push the boundaries and that are not afraid to be themselves).

What do you look out for in this line of business?

Keep an eye out for unscrupulous people who take advantage of and make money from you for nothing in return. There are a lot of scammers out there so just be wary and do your research.

What are some of the challenges you face in your career path?
I think some of the challenges as an independent artist is just to be keeping yourself inspired and just to keep making art it can be an incredible amount of work when you were basically being the CEO of your own company.

But in saying that I absolutely love being busy so sometimes it may feel a little bit overwhelming but I don’t think I would have it any other way.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I think the Internet has affected music in the best way even though it feels like there are a lot more people putting music out there but now we can take music into our own hands and do not have to rely on the gatekeepers of the music industry as an independent artist.

We get complete control of what we wanna do in a narrative it’s really quite amazing and we have all the tools to share our music with the world.

Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?
My advice to songwriters is just kept writing right about things that you’re passionate about that you love that are true to you and always keep a recording device (your smartphone) close cause you never know when an amazing idea is going to pop into your head and you need to be able to just record it down so you don’t forget.

What is your current project about?

My latest project is Confess Unplugged which is an acoustic version of one of my dance songs I thought the lyrics were just so beautiful to the song and I’ve always wanted to do an acoustic version and it just felt like the time was right now I feel like people can really hear the beautiful lyrics.

What are your hobbies?
One of my favourite hobbies or things to do is go out vintage shopping.

What do you do aside from this profession?
So apart from music and performing I would have to say my other passion is vintage shopping it is such a thrill when you find something that you’ve been wanting and you get it for a bargain and you also helping the planet!!! Love a stainable fashion.

So this may not be a surprise but I also own my shop ( with my amazing business partner Delilah) HotBox Vintage in South Pasadena. I feel so blessed that I get to do all the things that I love and surround myself with music and clothes.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
So I would just like to give a huge shout out to all of my fans and everyone that has supported me over the years it really does mean so much when people love your music! It is the best feeling in the world.
