What is your stage name?
PEP: PAZ el Pana
PC: Potnt Child

Is there a story behind your stage name?

PEP: The name PAZ is acronym for Psycho Active Zemi. Psycho Active is substances that affect your brain causing changes in mood, feeling, thoughts, behaviors ya know. So my music is substance that alter your way of feeling thinking for it is an experience every time you hear it. El pana in puerto rican means ” the homie” or the ” the Friend”. together its PAZ el Pana.

PC: Asking about my name is like asking Puff Daddy Diddy Sean Combs about how he came to Love at the end of it all.
I used to just call myself Potential, because I have the potential to cross styles and genres seamlessly, and Potnt Child came from that. Mostly because I choose to look at things with a childs heart, that pure
innocence. Open eyes always learning, brutally honest but always from a place of love. Stay golden Ponyboy!

Where do you find inspiration?
PEP: I draw inspiration from many things, mainly from experiences in my life, stories. being blessed to be alive another day. Also seeing others be succesful in doing what they love. As well being around other artist, going out in nature. Even being bored, that when i find it the most. Also if the beat is fire, its cracking.

PC: I consider myself lucky because I get most of my inspiration randomly beamed into my head at any given point in the day. I’ll just jot down said quote or concept or whatever it may be and revisit it later on with an instrumental.
Most of the songs I do the beat tells me what to do, I just listen and chime in where I fit.

What was the role of music in the early years of your life?

PEP: Music has been a big part in my life since i can remember. I used to be in dance crews back then as kid so that itself, without music cant do that.I also used to be in Band classes in junior high, played the trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet. in High School i used to freestyle ya know 16s with homies just messing around. it was around 2013-14 where i was gifted an ipad & on there i made my first beat. After that i was like woh, i can create music i like. Changed the whole course of everything

PC: I’ve had the inclination to make noises, sounds along with whatever song was on in the background, for as long as I can remember. Early on I grew up in church so alot of gospel and jazz in my early years, alot of Sounds of Blackness. I also started playing the saxophone in 3rd grade because music teacher said It’d bring the girls in.

Are you from a musical or artistic family?

PEP: I would say both. My family has musicians who play in salsa bands, dancers who compete at world competitions, Actors, even other artists in different genres like reggaeton, painters… Arts & music really run in the family

PC: My uncle is probably the reason I fell in love with it in the first place. An extremely talented drummer and musician all around. Still can’t wait to actually work on music with him. Also my mom spent some time rapping in her youth as well used to go by Rapping T. She said she did freestyle competitions for yoMTV raps when she was in college but idk. If its facts Narduwar will bring receipts.

Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?

PEP: Watching the bands & artist on TV that my parents would listen to or hearing them sing along to songs on the radio, always push me into loving music. even more since they always had different tastes than on another. though it wasn’t when i started hearing artists like Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, Casey Veggies, J. Cole, Kid Cudi, ASAP ROCKY, Joey Badass, Capital Steez & many artist that were coming out at that time, i was inspired to contribute my art in the form of music.

PC: I don’t really have an answer for that, if anyone I’d say the moguls of Hip Hop like Jay-Z and Diddy, who have been able to use the success of their music to power their other endeavors.

How did you learn to sing/write/to play?

PEP: Freestyling with friends, listening to the music i really like & writing in notebooks, on my phone, or on the laptop. Eventually hitting a studio, take after take until id get it right. Also being around other artists & musicians helped me develop more. Performing live shows was also a big factor in that. it taught me to really practice, thus i don’t lip synch.

PC: I learned how to read & write music in school. I played the saxophone in the school band from 3rd to 10th grade. My singing is an extension of that.

What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did youg see perform?
PEP: The first concert i went to that i remember was at SOMA in San Diego around 2014. it was to see Ab-Soul since he was on his tour for THESE DAYS. that night i also saw Bas, JID, & Earthgang before they went major.

PC: First concert i went to was a Fred Hammond Concert with my Grandma.

How could you describe your music?

PEP: A Wicked Mind Altering Experience,

PC: Inspirational, Nostalgic, A fresh Familiarity.

Describe your creative process.

PEP: It varies, some days i just say what i feel in moment and then revise it to see what changes to make. also write a little bit each day. other times things just come to me out of the blue and i begin writing everything i can in that moment & if im at the studio just flesh out something. sometimes the beat may not resonate, so I come back to it later on when i feel it finally speaks to me.

PC: My creative process is to runa top line, then write in the words. More times than naught, i feel the beat tellls me what to say, so i just lay down whatever comes to mind to on that initial listen. I try to capture the raw energy of that first dive, to me its the most genuine and heartfelt.

What is your main inspiration?

PEP: Being alive another day & also seeing how music can make a change in ones life. It allows me to appreciate everything i do even more.

PC: My inspiration without a doubt is my uncle Raphael. The first real muscian I knew. I grew up watching him play the drums and keyboard at chruch and I just
loved the way the music felt and how much fun it looked like he was always having when he was on stage playing.

What musician do you admire most and why?

PEP: i would say Ab-Soul & in Latin America, Residente. their wordplay in & bars in music are like non other. their style in music and creative process. thus it motivated me to do more bilingual music.

PC: Yea, alot! I’ve always liked to sing and play with melodies and little riffs here and there and I’ve definitely incorporated more of that into my music whereas before It was all high energy and bars!!

Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?

PEP: Definitely in ways in levels that I did thought i wouldn’t reach & its still evolving.
Better Cadance, rhymes, bars in both English & Spanish as well as incorporating other musical elements from other genres which help evolve my style even more

PC: Yea, alot! I’ve always liked to sing and play with melodies and little riffs here and there and I’ve definitely incorporated more of that into my music whereas before It was all high energy and bars!!

Who do you see as your main competitor?

PEP: I would have to say myself. whenever im doubtful or feel i cant do something, i know that the only person limiting myself is myself. My thinking. that when i realize i need change my perception of things & realize that i can do anything.

PC: I see myself as my biggest competition because I’m always trying to do better than I did before. That and Im constantly trying to expand my range.

What are your interests outside of music?

PEP: Photography, Videography, Graphic Designing, Making Merch Video Games, Traveling, being in nature, spending time with my lady, Trying new food. I love being creative in anyway i can but more than that I love food, so im always looking into new food spots & such.

PC: Big anime and Pokémon fan!! I like to design clothes and outfits, 90% of the time Im wearing something I made. I also like to garden and sew, currently working on a brand that incorporates all the
things that make me happy!

If it wasn’t a music career, what would you be doing?

PEP: Either be in video game designing, directing a movie or working in medical field like my father wanted me to, which i have but i hate it.

PC: Id be an architectural engineer for sure. I love buildings and grand structures with intricate details. I still plan to do the architectural designs for my own establishments when the time comes.

What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?

PEP: it would probably be time & budgeting. If i had more time i would go hours in non-stop into this music grind how in doing so i have to sacrifice time with friends & fam. Also Money is Required for everything & shit gets tricky sometimes but still manage through

PC: Biggest problem for me is Learning to balance my time with my family and friends, work, and my passions, has been my biggest struggle for the most part. I’ve had to sacrifice relationships in pursuit of my passions because I couldn’t properly manage my time.

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?

PEP: That artistes are able to have full autonomy of their work. get paid more & receive benefits, as well as the rest of the teams.

PC: Honestly, I don’t know enough about it to make that decision. I’d say at this point I wish there were more labels, major or independent, focused on developing artists instead of just putting out half-baked folks with a buzz that just burn themselves out.

Why did you choose this as the title of this project?

PEP: The name for the song itself came from the beat sounding like water.
i pitched it to Potnt about doing a collab song because we are both pisces & after we did the session PythonP, (producer) suggested we should do a project. So Water is just a taste, or is it?
PC: Because the song is smooth like water and we’re both Pisces.

What are your plans for the coming months?

PEP: Drop more music, visuals, merch, aiming to tour. drop a few projects before next Pana Album. for the most part just ride it out & see where it goes from here.

PC: Focus on Visuals and merch for my upcoming project titled, “Potions”. That along with putting the final touches on my website where everything potnt will be available.

Do you have any artistic collaboration plans?

PEP: Plenty, there is lists of people i would love to collaborate with & still may more to discover, from many genres to even who speak different languages. underground to major artist. Hopefully we make it happen.
PC: Other than this project with Paz, I’ve got no immediate plans to collab musically, but I do plan to do a merch collab with the launch of my brand Producing Happiness
