Painting A Canvas With Watercolors From Mithyka

Sighting a fragrance catalogue lying in the house, Dani gave a deep thought of how the fragrance radiates a space, he decided to spread his music throughout boundaries, thus choosing the name MITHYKA, with the thoughts of spreading love through music.

Mithyka started DJing in 2012 and began releasing original music in 2019, hailing from Mexico City spreading the word of deep soulful house. A sound made popular in the early 2000’s in San Francisco but now with my modern twist, influenced by today’s contemporary R&B.

He produces and records each and every music he has every released, and this time is out with a new EP titled Watercolors which has five songs on it.

In a recent interview between Mithyka and Mister Styx of musicarenagh, he shared some spotlight on his musical journey and his personal life as well!

What is your stage name?
Hello there, thank you for having me! My name is Dani and I go by Mithyka

Is there a story behind your stage name?
It’s a bit of a funny story that I don’t tell often but I got it from a fragrance catalogue that was laying around the house one day haha

Where do you find inspiration?
From the trials and tribulations that life throws at us sometimes, happy and sad moments, I try to channel that energy and see what comes off of it.

What was the role of music in the early years of your life?
I’ve always been drawn to music since a very early age, I used to throw little parties with my neighborhood friends were I would record a mixtape on a cassette from songs off the radio and then play it for them haha so I guess the DJ part was always there!

Are you from a musical or artistic family?
None of my immediate family pursued music, my mom had the only artistic abilities since she knew how to draw. Any artistic gene I got it from my momma

Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
So growing up I played my fair share of video games, one of my favorite games to play has always been FIFA and FIFA is known to have killer soundtracks. I discovered a DJ/producer that went by Paul van Dyk and he was the one that introduced me to electronic music, after that the rest was history. I knew this was what I wanted to pursue one way or another

How did you learn to sing/write/to play?
So my favorite band of all time are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they were the ones responsible for me falling in love with the concept of music from the very beginning. Their guitarist John Frusciante was the one that inspired me to pick up my first guitar. So since my early teens I began to learn and eventually transitioned into picking up the piano

What was the first concert that you ever went to and
who did you see perform?
My 1st concert was Motley Crue back in the summer of 2008, during my teen years classic rock was my genre of choice. It was either classic rock or electronic music, a very stubborn teen I was haha shoutout to jazz music for expanding my musical taste to every other genre!

How could you describe your music?
Different gravy.

Describe your creative process.
Making music is one of the most rewarding experiences and also one of the most mentally draining processes haha I need my mind to be clear, which is probably the toughest part but once I’m able to achieve a moment of zen I’m able to sit down and play around on the keys while a beat plays in the background.

There are times that it takes a while to come up with ideas but there are days where ideas just write themselves. Music is funny that way sometimes and I love it.

What is your main inspiration?
Perhaps my main inspiration comes from manifesting the end goal. I just want to make people dance wherever they are in all corners of the world

What musician do you admire most and why?
Kaskade. Not only is he my favorite DJ/producer but he’s the one that ultimately changed my sound by helping me discover the genre of deep house, specifically the deep house coming out of San Francisco from the early 2000’s.

Did your style evolve since the beginning of your
career?
Piggybacking off the last question, yes it most definitely evolved. I started out as a Trance music “DJ” but it wasn’t until I discovered deep house where everything just clicked for me. This was the sound that I connected with deeply in every sense of the word.

Who do you see as your main competitor?
Myself. Going all in on the cliche answer because it’s true haha

What are your interests outside of music?
Traveling and exercising are my two main vices, they are of big help in the inspiration and creative part of the process.

If it wasn’t a music career, what would you be doing?
Right winger for Arsenal football club (or Real Madrid, I know you’re reading this Florentino)haha

What is the biggest problem you have encountered in
the journey of music?
Being able to find consistency in a saturated industry, becoming a DJ or producing music has become very accessible which is great for the arts as a whole but unfortunately what that also has created has been a saturation of the field. The field has gotten more competitive than ever before but hey, challenge accepted!

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?
Social media. A true double edged sword. I wish likes and followers didn’t dictate your level of success but at the same time social media has the power to bring exposure to amazing artists that nobody would have heard of otherwise and I think that’s a beautiful thing.

Why did you choose this as the title of this project?
It seemed to fit the aesthetic and the vision I was going for, a blank canvas for me to splash my ideas onto. Watercolors tend to blend in together, I want my music to blend in to people’s emotions

What are your plans for the coming months?
I am starting to work on the next record! I’m trying not give myself a deadline but I believe it will be done by the end of the year so keep an eye out for that!

Do you have any artistic collaboration plans?
If you are a singer and have made it all the way here, please reach out to me on my socials I would love to potentially collaborate on a vocal track!

What message would you like to give to your fans?
I say this whenever I get the chance but I’ll never get tired of saying it. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my music, one of the greatest gifts you can give someone is time and I will always be appreciative of that.
