When it comes to music, Owen Coleman is a Los Angeles-based indie rocker who draws inspiration from Fall Out Boy, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and a little bit of his Chemical Romance.
Singing and songwriting are his primary professions, and he creates all of his own music. Owen just released a new song, and we were able to debut it during an interview with Owen.
The electrifying, uplifting music of “If The World Falls Apart” has an 80s feel to it. As the song proceeds, a Fall Out Boy-like contemporary rock mood pervades.
What is your real and official showbiz name?
“Owen Coleman” it’s my IRL name and my stage name
How long have you been making music and what attracted you to it?
I’ve been making music ever since high school and I’m 23 years old now. it wasn’t until last year that I actually started writing for my own project though
What were your first project and the people you worked with and which year?
The first project I was involved in was a glam rock band called The Midnight Club. When I was in high school I formed a band with my friend Harry Springer. He’s in an incredible band now called, “Moon Walker”. He wrote the songs in The Midnight Club and I sang them. This was in 2015-2019. My experience with The Midnight Club really helped shaped me into the artist I am today.
Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why?
My supporters motivate me. Anytime I post a song on my story and people are swiping up, telling me how important this song is to them, etc. I love making people inspired through my music. Writing music is an inspiring process for me as a human being, so to be this small of an artist and still have an impact on people’s lives is motivating to keep going
What are your friend’s and parents’ thoughts on your career in singing?
My family and friends have always been supportive. they’ve never downright hated on my stuff, which is good! to be honest, I know a lot of my family/friends just wants to see me happy. they don’t care what I’m doing musically as long as it’s good for my soul and is taking me to where I want to be. I have an amazing inner circle
What are some of the challenges you face in your career path?
Really the only challenge I face is myself. My mind is my biggest enemy. Overthinking slows me from doing exactly what I love and need to do
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I obviously benefit from the internet a ton. if I didn’t have things like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, it would take way longer for things to get going for me. the internet brings a lot of haters, but it is nothing compared to the love and support it can bring to ur music
Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?
honestly, you need to be ur biggest critic AND your biggest fan. you need to be engulfed by your vision on the regular and always looking to improve. always thinking about what type of artist you are, what you bring to the music world, what influence you can bring, etc.
What is your current project about?
My entire artistry is about good music that connects with people.
What does this song mean to you?
This song is about being in the midst of losing everything you love/care about.
What are your hobbies?
I am always either writing songs, working my job, hanging with my girlfriend or my cats, meditating, or watching stupid tv shows. that is my life
What do you do aside from this profession?
I work at a social media agency to support my music career and my own living. i have a wonderful girlfriend who lives with me and we have two cats together. Good life
What is one message you would give to your fans?
Love endlessly. Be a loving person and always live in truth. and Thank you for listening to my music, I appreciate you more than you know
