Nigel Hinds Premieres His Anticipated Single “Ghostin'”

For as long as he can remember, Nigel Hinds has experimented with a wide range of musical genres.

It all began in the Seventh Day Adventist Church when he started singing gospel and soul and R&B songs.

Sing Baby Sing, a vocal quartet he formed with his boyhood choirmates, is still displaying his bright voice.

As a result of his studies at Access to Music College, Nigel earned a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance, as well as an advanced certificate in Creative Media Education. After completing his studies, he embarked on his first national tour in the UK with his feature single entitled “Fire” alongside Corey S-Man Campbell.

The West Midlands Fire Service collaborated on this campaign to raise awareness of fire safety. In 2011, he completed an international tour in China as a solo artist. Afterwards,

Nigel’s first EP, Gotta Get Away, was published digitally across all major platforms in 2014, and a music video for the project’s title track followed soon after.

Music Arena Gh debuted his most recent anticipated track, “Ghostin” during a close chat with him. Since his early days, he has pursued a new and vibrant R&B appeal with “Ghostin”. The new single sees him return with an abundance of emotive textures throughout, thanks to his rich and soaring voice placed over a daring and oscillating sound.

What is your real and official showbiz name?
My real name and showbiz name is Nigel Hinds. I wanted my artist name to be a true representation of myself and my real name does that for me.

How long have you been making music and what attracted you to it?
I have been recording and songwriting since the age of 19. I always loved music and I started to take my career seriously at 19 when I enrolled in a music course at ‘Access to Music College in Birmingham.

What were your first project and the people you worked with and which year?
My very first project was a song that was co-written by myself and Corey S-Man Campbell called “Fire” in 2010. This was a song that was written for West Midlands Fire Service for a national campaign around fire safety.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why?
I have a lot of influences in my life. My family first and foremost. I come from a musical family and we all grew up singing in church and whilst singing in various choirs and vocal groups, this really ignited the fire within me for music.

Artists such as Faith Evans, Tank, Usher and Musiq Soulchild are also major influences on me. I have always loved real heartfelt singing, vocal arrangements and adlibs.

I am excited by this level of artistry and always wanted to possess some of those same skills and attributes. I believe that these influences pushed and inspired me to be the artist that I am today.

What are your friend’s and parents’ thoughts on your career in singing?
My friends and my family have always been very supportive of my career and
whenever I have shows near or far, I have that support system around me. I am truly blessed to have the family and friends that I have.

What are some of the challenges you face in your career path?
I have been through a lot of ups and downs throughout my career and I have learned that trying to have a successful career in the ever-changing music industry isn’t easy.

I auditioned for X-Factor and The Voice and I was unsuccessful during the audition process for both shows, I have been on tour and things didn’t work out financially. I have been an independent artist funding my own music over the years and it caused a lot of strain on me.

It can be very disheartening at times when you are not progressing as fast as you would like to, but I always pushed through and made it work. Without challenges, you cannot learn and evolve. This is part of the process.

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
The internet is a powerful tool and it has its advantages and disadvantages. Social media is an amazing platform to showcase new music and connect with other artists and fans but it can make you or break you. As long as this tool is used wisely and effectively for your own benefit as an artist, I don’t think you can go wrong.

Do you have any advice for aspiring songwriters?
The best advice I could give is to write music that is real to you and use your feelings and emotions from personal experiences so that the music will always be authentic and relatable.

What is your current project about?
My latest single is called Ghostin’. This song is about going through the motions with someone that has ghosted you. It’s almost as if you know what is about to happen before it happens because the feeling is so familiar, but it is masked by confusion and dishonesty and you don’t know where you stand in that scenario.

Speaking about the new track, Nigel said,

‘Ghostin’ was written based on a personal experience that I went through. I have been the one to ghost and I have also been ghosted. I thought this would be something a lot of listeners could relate to as we have all experienced this at some point in our lives.

What does this song mean to you?
I wrote this song from personal experience and this was a situation that I was dealing with at the time. I know that I am not the only one that has dealt with this issue and I needed to write about something that was real and very current in today’s society.

What are your hobbies?
I like to travel as much as I can. I love experiencing different environments and cultures, I find that fascinating. I’m a big movie fanatic, you can find me in the cinema at least once a week. I like to hang out with friends, and go to the theatre and have dinner. Anything that involves activity of some sort is always fun too.

What do you do aside from this profession?
I currently work for a transport company in their Social Media team and I also travel all over the United Kingdom singing with the vocal quartet Sing Baby Sing.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
Life is for a living! Enjoy as many moments as you can and share them with the people that matter most to you.
