Leap Into Tomorrow With Alex Paclin

Alex Paclin had the honor of performing in front of an audience with blues legend Bob Margolin at Double Door INN, the most seasoned blues club on the east shore of the US, at 19 years old. Indeed, even before Alex started playing in 2007, he had proactively set up a good foundation for himself as an expert performer. He performs jazz, blues, rock, and popular music.

Through the years Alex participated in Russian festivals like “Nashestvie” (over 200000 listeners), Moscow music contest “Emporio Music Fest”, “Pustyy Holmy” (open-air festival of free creativity), a festival in the US called “Hill Country Harmonica” along with Sugar Blue and Jason Ricci. Took part in shooting the movie “Blues in Russia” (by Phil Big Daddy Speat).

Stage name: Alex Paclin.

What was the role of music in the early years of your life?
My parents have a sophisticated taste, which means I listened to good music in early years, various blues, Aerosmith, Queen, Beatles and so on.

Are you from a musical or artistic family?
Not really, but my dad played an accordion.

Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
Partially the thing that I saw a guy in our school class, who brought a guitar on a teacher’s day (a holiday in Russia) and the girls from a senior class really liked him play (the girls were substituting the teacher on that day, which is a common thing too). After that I borrowed a guitar from a step brother and started learning it.

How did you learn to sing/write/to play?
By watching Youtube videos. I was a hardcore learner and sometimes I could spend 9 hours a day studying stuff.

What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform?
It was in a blues club in Russia where we saw a virtuoso guitar player and singer.

How could you describe your music?
My songs often come from different genres, like pop, rock and jazz, it is bold, maybe naive and sincere.

Describe your creative process?
I usually compose on a guitar and piano and after I got the whole song written I start producing. There are exclusions though, on my upcoming album I have an intro song that was started with producing arpeggiated balalaika, sampled folk instruments and synths and turned out very epic.

What is your main inspiration?
My life, in some songs I project my experiences, in some I imagine things.

What musician do you admire most and why?
Hozier, he has great lyrics and he feels music on very deep levels. I admire Queen and Freddie Mercury, he has the power and also is very sincere with music.

Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?
Yes, I started playing music thinking I’d become a blues musicians (back then I wrote many blues tunes), but later with the help of one producer another side of mine was unleashed and I started creating pop, rock and ballads.

Who do you see as your main competitor?
Other undiscovered musicians that I know personally who still have a bigger following than I am.

What are your interests outside of music?
I like video games, board games and tennis.

If it wasn’t a music career, what would you be doing?
Graphic designing. That’s the profession that I got, I studied 4 years in the institute in Russia and got a Bachelor degree.

What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?
Small audience, which is yet to grow. But also living in Russia. Since my music is in English, the audience is gonna be less by default, now it’s much worse after war and sanctions and thanks to that I’m gonna move to the States soon🙂

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?
I think I wouldn’t change anything, it is as it has to be.

What are your plans for the coming months?
Get the second component of Phizer, that will allow me to travel to USA and earn some money for that trip.

Do you have any artistic collaboration plans?
Yes, once I’m in the States I’m gonna start a band and play in venues with my music.

What message would you like to give to your fans?
Keep following me, I have a lot of music yet to show!
