What is your real name?

Lenny Anderson

What’s your official Stage Name (showbiz name)?

LXNNY (Pronounced like my first name)

Follow LXNNY on: Website, Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, YouTube and Instagram.

What do you do (fashion, music, comedy, artist, dancer, etc.)?

I am a rapper & producer. I engineer my music as well. Recording myself and doing the mixing and Mastering.

How did you get into what you do (music, modelling, art, dance, etc.?)

I started getting involved in the world of music at an early age when I joined the school band in 3rd grade. I played the trombone from then until I graduated High School. That was my introduction into the world of being a part of music. The passion grew during that time as I was hearing different Hip-Hop and R&B music. Listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show with my mom along with being in the Jazz Band gave me a different appreciation for music. When I first heard The Clipse “Grindin” it sparked something in me. I didn’t know why, but the drums felt so good that I told myself “man I want to be able to make that.” I would then pay attention to the hits that Pharrell & The Neptunes would produce and I wanted to be like Pharrell. Especially watching him in the “Mr. Me Too” music video which is one of my favourite songs of all time. Although I had this dream, I didn’t feel it was truly attainable so I continued to manoeuvre through life doing the things I felt I was supposed to do until one day I decided I have to try before I count myself out. I was a sophomore in college and I took my entire paycheck along with a few more dollars from my mom, bought an MPC and now I am here.

What field or genre are you into and give a brief description of what your career/profession/ field feels like?

The main genres I am passionate about are Hip-Hop, R&B, & Jazz. To me they all have a feeling of true expression with no rules and raw emotion. Whether it is through speaking voice plus melody with HipHop, beautiful singing with R&B, or pure instrumental expression and freedom with Jazz.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why?

I often think back to my 13 year old self who was very self-conscious and didn’t really know where he fit into the world. He knew where he wanted to be but didn’t have the confidence or vision to actually make It happened. Through his confusion he would escape with music and that would form his happy place. Music is where he felt at home. Whether he was listening or playing in the marching/jazz band. I make music to inspire that kid just like the likes of Pharrell & Kanye West inspired me. I want kids to understand they can make their dreams come true and they don’t have to shy away from their passions because society tells them what they can and cannot do. I want to inspire a kid to start working towards their passions earlier than I did so they can attain that true happiness they are looking for. That’s what drives me.

What was your first project and the people you worked with and which year?

So I started out strictly making beats. I would put out different beat tapes with the first one named ‘The Garden of Eden.” From there I had an idea to do something similar to Mike Will Made-It with “Ransom.” I loved how he got a lot of different rappers he admired and appreciated to rap over his amazing production for an album. During that process, I felt it might be difficult to accomplish that so early in my music career. So I figured since I listened to so much rap music, I could start rapping myself. Using that as a way to get more people to listen to my beats. That project was called “LxnnyEP” and it was fully produced by me. The beats were good but the rapping was not hahaha (no you cannot find it anywhere and you will never hear it hahahaha). It was a starting point though. I didn’t give up.

How many projects do you have so far?

I have 5 projects on streaming services right now. “14K Italian Gold”, “Peace Street Market”, “Ocean Views”, “Lamborghini Boats”, and my latest effort “LORD, PROTECT US.”

How long have you been doing what you do?

I bought that MPC in 2012-2013. Been working on my craft ever since.

What do you look out for in this line of business?

I’ve heard all the stories and understand that this can get murky and ugly. For me, I really just want to be known for making great quality music that resonates and leaves you wanting more. Also carrying myself correctly so that as I am doing business deals I treat others with respect and do right by them. Ensuring that I am able to provide for my family, invest in their future, and work on my passion full time.

Have you won any awards or been nominated for an award? Or in short, any achievement? Both in and out of your career path.

No awards yet. Key word, yet. In due time.

What is this new release about?

With everything that is going on in the world, I want my music to allow folks to escape like it did for me as previously stated. This release showcases different raw and uncut scenarios people may endure in life while pushing for their passions and finding what their definition of happiness is. All the while, asking for protection from a higher power as we manoeuvre through the world.

Who and how many people worked on it?

The creation of this was fun. I got a chance to work with a songstress for the first time in Elle. SDee who I met during the height of the ClubHouse days. From there I got together with my brother who I have known since 2007-2008 in SeñorBennett. Went to LA and worked with a High School friend in Ace Henderson who is an amazing artist and brings a different flair to the record. If it wasn’t for him vibing out to that beat and beginning to write a hook, the world probably wouldn’t have heard that beat. Lastly, I got some great bars from NEWMAN. He is the first artist to actually reach out to me for a feature! I remember when he sent the email to be apart of his project “ANGEL FRAME” I thought it was spam hahaha. I get so many spam messages regarding music it felt unreal that someone was actually asking me to provide a verse. Altogether I think we made something beautiful that will stand tall in my catalogue.

What can your previous and new audiences anticipate from you in the future?

MORE MUSIC! I’m going to continue to put out art and stop waiting for “the right time.” I spent so much time thinking about who isn’t listening to my music that I lost sight of the folks that really appreciate my music! Every time someone who has no real reason to boost my ego or try to appease me says they like my work, it makes me very proud. To me it’s a sign from the most high that this is my purpose and that I am stepping in the right direction. So I want to make sure I am feeding those listeners. I also want to continue to work with other producers and rappers. The next 2 releases you will hear me working with other producers that I appreciate who have shown love for me as an artist. I had to take a step back and realise that I am actually a rapper hahahaha. I thought of myself as a producer for so long that I overlooked the idea that people like my rapping hahaha. So I am going to continue to flex that muscle.

Young and vibrant man I am, God fearing, warm at heart. Music is bae food is life. If you've seen this then you know me!!!
