In addition to being a vocalist, songwriter, and composer in Montreal, James Alynes is also a producer. For his ethereal and calming voice, he is known. He intends to release an album in 2022 that includes a song he recorded each day of the year.
The Guinness Book of World Records, radio stations, and a slew of well-known DJs and musicians from countries as diverse as Canada, France, Belgium, Germany, and elsewhere took notice of the endeavour (a song a day). The songs on this album were written for his personal goal of releasing one song each day for a year, totalling 371 tracks.
The new track “Pistes (Toi et Moi)” by James Alynes is the name of the singer’s latest song, which translates to “You and Me” in English.
Variety/Folk with Pop elements, Pistes (Toi et Moi) is often regarded as a Rap album. Even though numerous songs are written about love, this one is nostalgic and honours the passing of the romantic era. It’s not that he is a pessimist, but rather a grownup, like two individuals who discover that they had a crush on each other too early.
We caught up with James to find out more about his brand and the current release, which you can see in this short interview with Music Arena Gh.
What is your real and showbiz name?
I mostly go by my artist name, James Alynes, so let’s just call me that haha.
Where are you from (hometown)?
Well, I’ve travelled a lot, and I’ve lived in America, Europe and Africa, hard to say what is my hometown exactly, but I’m from Montreal. That’s where I grew up and spent my childhood.
How did you get into music?
Music has always been a big part of my life. Growing up, when you travel a lot, you become aware of how different music can be depending on where you are, and how different factors can influence the music you hear around you: language, weather, culture etc.
My mom would listen had a big CD collection, we would listen to a lot of those – usually from the 70s and 80’s – mostly in French, such as Joe Dassin, Mike Brant, Charles Aznavour or a bit later in life Jeanne Manson. I really started writing my own songs at 16 years old.
Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why??
Good music motivates me. Also, discovering artists and people with music projects motivates me. But the way I see it, it’s really about discipline, not motivation. Motivation is good, it gets things in motion, but it comes and goes. You have to be able to continue even after the “three years love period”.
What does your current song/album mean to you?
The album is titled “Que Ma Joie Demeure!” which roughly translates to “Let My Joy Remain!”. It’s about navigating through various deep emotions and trying to find joy in it, an impossible task for most, including me haha. The album is mostly surrounded by nostalgia and regrets about lost joy, but this song celebrates it!
What do you do aside from this profession?
I have two jobs: the first is music. The other one is the media. I won’t say much but I work in the media.
What are your hobbies?
Films! Films, not movies haha. Cinephile inside joke, sorry. I love watching films. Cinema was kind of my first love alongside music. I worked in the field and also direct my own videos. Discovering young talents and helping, produce them also takes a good part of my time.
