New York-born singer, songwriter, and composer Jack Tracy is an American icon.
He also created and owns the production company Necessary Outlet, which is responsible for several LGBTQ-related works, such as the weekly dating and sex podcast Dying Alone (co-hosted with JJ Bozeman), the feature film Snowflake, the audio drama Community, three seasons of the web series History (all of which received high praise), and the comedies Big Law and Millennial Memoir.
With his new song “None Tonight” Jack Tracy is back in the game. The song and its music video have been made available across all platforms. The new tune, which sounds like a cross between Prince and Michael Jackson, is an anthem warning any “ghost” who has returned from the grave and wants to reignite old flames that they will get “none tonight.” Jack’s third studio album, titled “Gold” is set for release in September 2022, and this track serves as the album’s first single.
The whole video was shot in a single day with Jack’s regular filming partner Joseph Patrick Conroy of Amerikana Media at locations all across New York City, with the last scene taking place at the famous Stonewall Inn, where Jack hosts his monthly music showcase FAM.
Along with Brita Filter of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Jack co-headed the Pride month edition of FAM in June, which collected $1,700 for an abortion rights nonprofit. In the concerts running up to the beginning of the Gold Era, Jack has been playing None Tonight often.
He spoke about his musical career in an open interview.
What is your real and showbiz name?
Where are you from (hometown)?
New York, NY
How did you get into music?
In producing a web series, I was unhappy with the licensed third-party music I was finding and taught myself how to make my own. I really liked some beats I came up with so decided to make an album. Now I’m 3 albums and 3 EPs into a music career!
What field or genre are you into and give a brief description of what your field feels like?
I grew up on 90s hip-hop and RnB, so most of my stuff revolves around that. But I do love genre-hopping artists and so I similarly try to show off versatility.
Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why??
I feel like I owe my childhood self his dream.
What does your current song/album mean to you?
I think it’s a universal message of reminding yourself that when a romantic interest from your past resurfaces, not to fall for the temptation to go back to the well. There is plenty of fish in the sea. Only move forward.
What do you do aside from this profession?
I am the Chief Product Officer of a financial tech company and a lawyer.
What are your hobbies?
Aside from music, I am the founder of Necessary Outlet Productions, which makes LGBTQ+ film, web and podcast content.
