Highlyy‘s first full-length album, titled “Soldier,” has finally been released after months of buildup and serves as an excellent introduction to the Essex-based singer-songwriter who is just 18 years old.
Highlyy sings in English, French, and Yoruba on the exciting afrobeat s single, which she has been teasing on TikTok since the beginning of May. She does this while also proudly acknowledging her Congolese origin from the very beginning.
Tion Wayne, who was nominated for a Breakthrough Brit Award for his distinctively melodic style of rapping, contributes a few lines to the tune as well, which adds another layer to the song.
As sped up and slowed down versions of ‘Soldier’ have also circulated the platform and gone viral, Highlyy is also dropping the full-length version of the TikTok sped-up track, as well as a bonus ‘Build Up’ version that begins with just the vocals and gradually builds into the full version alongside the release of ‘Soldier’ featuring Tion Wayne.
The fact that Highlyy is already cultivating a devoted audience in France in addition to this one here in the UK demonstrates that the band has unquestionable worldwide potential. The song “Soldier” delivers the idea that you should never stop pursuing your goals and aspirations, no matter how many obstacles life may bring your way.
This song means so much to me. I wrote it at 3 AM when I was going through a hard time in my life. Music was the only thing that was keeping me going, so this felt like a prayer to make it out and have a shot at pursuing my dreams. In the hook, it states Even if you don’t do it for me, do it for my brothers – that line stands out to me the most. I wanted to say that even if it doesn’t work out for me, I want to make sure that everyone around me is working hard and striving.
