Ben (bass and vox) and Harry (drums and vox) join founding member Joe (lead vox and guitar) to form a band called The Winters. They are a Bristol, United Kingdom based rock power group who have just released an original single titled “Echo”. It talks about the difficulty of escaping difficult times and does an excellent job of showcasing the band’s newly developed style. We had a few questions and answers with them. Below are exclusive details on The Winters and their new release.

What is the story behind the name The Winters?
I always wish there was a more interesting answer to this question than there is!! We were struggling to find a name, one of us suggested it and we hated it less than the other names, so it stuck! Maybe I should start making up a more interesting story…
What are the names of the band members?
I’m Joe on lead vocals and guitar, then we’ve got Ben on bass and backing vocals and Harry on drums and backing vocals.
How did the band get together?
Harry and Ben have recently joined the band after a line-up change early this year, but we first met playing in a wedding band together back in 2018. Since then, we’ve played together 100s of times and we’re really enjoying writing and recording our own music together.
What was The Winter’s first release?
Our first release was “We’re Still Kids” back in April 2020. It’s a track about not wanting to grow up!
Which music genre(s) is The Winters into?
We listen to a really wide range of music. I love Indie Rock and the other guys are into Metal, but on the long van journeys to gigs we find ourselves listening to anything from Rap to Jazz to Country.
How long has the band been making music?
In its current line-up, we started writing in January 2022 and since then we’ve recorded four tracks and released two. So, it’s been a hectic schedule, but we’re so pleased with how its sounding and how the music has been received.
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
There’s nothing else in the world that gives you goosebumps like music does. I love how the perfect chord, harmony or melody can evoke such a physical reaction. That’s why I love it!
What is the musical atmosphere in Bristol like?
Bristol has a really thriving music scene – we love it here! So many fantastic local bands and venues that we’re spoiled.
What has been the high point of the band’s career so far?
We recently passed the milestone of 500K streams on Spotify, even though I appreciate that’s a modest number of streams for many artists in the world, it still makes me really happy to know that so many people are enjoying our music.
Could you give any advice to those thinking about turning a passion for music into a career?
Do it! It’s hard work and definitely not as glamorous as you might hope or imagine, but there’s nothing like working on a project that you’re passionate about – totally worth it!
Has the band ever participated in any music competitions? Did you win any prizes?
We’ve not participated in any competitions, no. It would certainly be an interesting thing to look into!
What is “Echo” all about?
Echo is about the struggle of breaking free from a difficult situation. It showcases the slightly rockier sound we have adopted with our new line-up and I’m thrilled with the result!
Who and how many people worked on it?
Harry, our drummer, wrote the foundation of the chords and song structure, I added the melody and lyrics whilst Ben worked his magic on bass. Our producer Kray had some great input on the track too whilst recording with him. I really enjoy this more collaborative approach to songwriting, which has been a bit different to how I’ve worked before.
What is the band working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?
We have just released our second single of the year ‘One Minute At A Time’ and we have two more tracks in the pipeline for release in the coming weeks, so if people want to hear those please do follow us on social media and on Spotify.
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Thanks for your amazing support, you legends.
