What’s your official stage name and why did you choose it?
My official stage name is my real name, Alsa. 🙂
What got you into music?
I have been introduced to music since I was a kid, like…very young. At the age of 3, my parents noticed that I had interest in music because I could sing the song, “Burung Kak Tua” on pitch. Besides that, I always enjoyed music by moving my body, so those were also things that my family noticed about me being interested in music.
Basically, music has been a part of my life since my childhood. I also started to attend many singing competitions when I was a kid, just because I wanted to and my parents supported me! So, with my family support, I began my music career at an early age and realized I was always happy to sing, and that’s why I decided to dive into music.
How would you describe the music you typically create?
Basically I’m a K-Pop fan from Indonesia who likes to watch Korean dramas. So, I collaborate my music style between K-Pop music and Indonesian music, and sometimes with J-Pop. My music always brings some cute and sweet vibes that match my voice.
Who (living or dead) inspires you as an artist and why?
Because of me being a K-Pop fan, the artist that inspired me the most is IU from Korea because I like her music style, her looks, and her character in music, who always surprised me in a positive way and I wanna be like that too.
What’s your creative process like?
Basically, I always come out with some melody like…the vocal melody and I’m humming it on the voice-note when I think the melody is good. Then, I do some work with my producer and develop that humming-melody voice-note. From there, the music is ready with the na-na-na melody (no lyrics yet). For the lyrics, I usually write a love song and get inspired by the current situation which is not only my situation but also others’ that I could relate to.
What feelings or reactions do you hope to arouse in people who listen to your music? Are you surprised by the reactions you get?
To be honest, I don’t have any expectations. Like, I have hope, but not any expectations because I don’t wanna get disappointed by expectations that I set. Because in my opinion, this industry cannot be predicted. We can just do our best and let God do the rest.
But I hope I will get positive feedback when people hear my song, enjoy my song, and appreciate me as a singer. To this day, thankfully, I do get that reaction, which is an amazing feeling! Once I knew there were people who listen to my songs, sing along, and give me any other positive feedback, I’m shocked and my heart is touched! It feels amazing!
Do you think you could get any better as a musician? And if so, how would you achieve that?
Of course! I could get better than this because I learn every single day. I’m learning and improving myself in songwriting and performing music as a singer. My management team also helps me to always grow and develop myself as a musician and a human being. And it’s not an achievement but it’s a process, so I hope I’ll get better and better as the days pass on.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
No, I don’t have any hobbies outside of music. I live and breathe music each and every day!
What has been the high point in your career so far?
My music career has been around for a long time and a lot of unexpected positive things have happened. It’s kind of hard for me to choose a single highest point of my music career, but I think I would say when I got viral on TikTok with so many views and followers in a short time. I felt like…finally people recognized me as a singer. It happened around the end of 2020 to the beginning of 2021.
Which musician would you like to collaborate with?
To be honest, I wanna collaborate with many musicians or singers. But if I had to choose, of course I wanna collaborate with IU because I’m a big fan of hers. Besides her, I wanna collaborate with HIV! from Indonesia and Ariana Grande.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Making music or creating music doesn’t have to follow the market because the market can be created. I say that because sometimes people just make music for the market, but deep down it’s not the music that they want to make. So, they’re not being honest with themselves in their musical works.
What is this new release about?
“I Wanna” is about people who are experiencing falling in love and feeling as if they had found the right person and imagine wanting to spend the rest of their days together with that person.
Who and how many people worked on it?
Gusti as the Music Producer and myself as the Songwriter. The song also got help from Barsena as the Vocal Producer.
What are you working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?
Right now, I’m actually in the process of making my next single. The material already exists, it just needs to be matured. My next single is kind of the same vibes but in a different style. Hah! I hope you’re curious! 🙂
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
To all my fans, Alsalicious, thank you for always supporting me from the beginning of my career! I’m so grateful to have you all and I hope you’ll always support me in my music career! Love you Alsalicious!
