What are your names? Introduce yourselves.

Lachlan: Here in The Buckleys we got Sarah on the lead vocals/bass, Molly on backup vocals, keys and mandolin and Lachlan on the big double neck guitar.

Follow The Buckleys on Facebook, Spotify and Instagram.

What’s the trio’s official stage name (showbiz name) and the story behind it?

Lachlan: Our official band name is “The Buckleys” we’ll never quite understand why we named the band after our last name but we never had a problem with it and we’ve always liked it.

How did you guys get together?

Lachlan: The band first formed when our mother gave birth to all of us followed by Sarah’s first word being “Setzer” for “Brian Setzer and the stray cats!” We’ve grown up in a musical household our whole lives so it’s been a pretty natural progression for us to pick up an instrument and play together.

What was The Buckley’s first release?

Lachlan: The Buckley’s first release was actually a cd that we recorded with our dad in the lounge room when we were about 7-9 years old. However our first ‘official’ release with Petrol Records was our song Daydream, it reached #1 on the country charts.

What are The Buckley’s main influences?

Molly: Individually we have our own influences that naturally come through our instruments/styles. We have always been in love with the music that came out of the 70’s in particular… super real, authentic and ‘band’ sounding. I find that our sound is created best when Sarah, Lachlan and I each put our own tastes and spin on a song and make it one cohesive sound…while having a lot of fun doing it!

How long has The Buckleys been making music?

Molly: We’ve been making music pretty much all our lives, as a family we grew up in a very musical household, there were instruments everywhere in the house and we were falling asleep behind our dad’s drum kit at shows as kids. It was a very natural progression to start as a band.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

Molly: Exploring history and watching the constant evolution of music is super inspiring. Endless discovery of artists from the let’s say the 20s to now, being introduced and falling in love with sounds I’ve never heard before then going on to try to recreate in my own way.

The list is endless…

What feelings or reactions do you hope to arouse in people who listen to your music? Are you surprised by the reactions you get?

Molly: We love hearing feedback on the music we put out. It’s always so interesting to hear people‘s perspectives because you never know what you’re gonna get but that’s the fun part! Our hope is that people just enjoy it, it makes them happy and they can get up and groove out.

What has been the high point of your career so far?

Molly: Definitely meeting Chris Murphy who will forever inspire and guide us through life. We are so incredibly thankful for the impact he had and continues to have on us as we navigate the music industry and grow as a band. He was an incredible mentor and friend.

Which song do you feel is the best music you’ve ever released and why?

Sarah: We are really excited about the new music we’re releasing, Oops I Love You and the songs that will be coming soon as part of our upcoming EP ‘Take It As It Comes’. We’re really proud of our debut album ‘Daydream’ but it’s always really exciting and important to feel that you’re evolving with each new chapter and with the new music you’re writing and recording. We’ve grown a lot in the 2 years since we released ‘Daydream’ as people, musicians and as a band. I really feel like you can hear that in the songwriting and music in general.

Has The Buckleys ever participated in any music competitions? Did you win any prizes?

Sarah: I was really grateful to have been awarded the APRA AMCOS Professional Development Award. As a songwriter it is such an honour to be recognised for this craft which I pour so much of myself into and respect so much.

What is this new release about?

Sarah: Oops I Love You is a cheeky, sassy track about accidentally and inconveniently falling in love 😉

Who and how many people worked on it?

Sarah: I started writing this song accidentally with our youngest brother, Dylan (15yo). He and I were just jamming for fun (he plays drums) and I stumbled across this bass line. It grew from there when I brought the idea to Lachlan and Molly. We kept it in our back pocket as we were heading over to Nashville which is where we showed Chad Carlson, our producer, the bones of what we were working on and finished writing it with him. It was one the first songs we wrote from the upcoming EP.

What are you working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?

Sarah: Absolutely! There’s always lots going on behind the scenes so you’ll just have to wait and see! Right now we’re really focusing on the release of our upcoming EP and our live show… we’re so excited to get out on the road and tour!

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Sarah: Of course, it would be a massive thank you for supporting us! We hope everyone who listens to our music feels a part of the family in their own way with music that they can connect with, enjoy and just makes them feel good! So many things are so serious – we just wanna have fun and groove out with people! Our music is rooted in the idea that we want to make people happy, and make them feel good!
