Get To Know SHALLOWSKY And Their Music Video Release

Shallowsky has unveiled a huge new video for their current tune “MUSCLESAREUSELESSAGAINSTGHOSTS,” the group’s first release of 2022. The video comes after the original tune was released as a standalone single on April 20, 2022. While the tune has all of the greatest components you’d expect from a metal hymn, the video for “MUSCLESAREUSELESSAGAINSTGHOSTS” heightens the tension of the single’s overall premise.

We had a few questions and answers with them. Below are exclusive details on SHALLOWSKY and their release.

What are the names of the band members?

Brian Stephens (Vocals, Guitar) Lamberto Sanchez (Guitar)

What’s the band’s official stage name (showbiz name) and how did the name come about?

ShallowSky. One of our songs, Rift, existed before we had a name. There is a line in the song that says “borrow space from shallow skies”, and I love the imagery it implies. I thought it really fit what our music is all about.

How did the band get together?

Lamberto was working for a producer in Spain, and I sent him a couple songs to work on with me after getting in touch online. I liked his writing style and personality, and then we met by chance in a random city in Spain that we were both visiting for separate reasons. It was fate for sure. We got along great, had similar musical interests, and eventually decided to work together full time.

How would you describe the music the band typically creates?

Everything we write is from the soul. It has roots in post hardcore and metalcore, but has our own melodic and cinematic flair to it. It’s energetic, ambient, a little dark, emotional, and fun to listen to.

What has been the high point of the band’s musical journey so far?

Having the opportunity to work with Nick Matzkows and Jon Eberhard on this first release cycle, and then watching the community grow has been amazing.

What’s your process for dealing with performance anxiety?

We actually haven’t done any live shows yet- but as far as filming music videos and things like that, we just really try to feel what we want the audience to feel and let the music take us.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?

Music is the universal language. The things we want to portray can only be understood so much using words, but through music everyone can feel and understand the same things.

What feelings or reactions do you hope to arouse in people who listen to your music? Are you surprised by the reactions you get?

First, we just want people to enjoy listening. But we also want to share the idea of wonder about our nature and our place in the universe. So far the reactions have been great. Nothing too surprising, except for a few people comparing us to bands like Green Day. That one was a little surprising.

If you could have your fans remember one thing about you, what would it be?

We want our fans not just to listen to our music, but to become part of a community of individuals seeking a deeper meaning and purpose in our existence.

What feelings, subjects or concepts inspire the band to make music?

Everything we write is based on the esoteric in some way. What are we really? What else is out there that we can’t see? Are we part of something bigger? Deep thoughts, meditations, conversations, dreams, and other experiences are what inspire us.

What is this new release about?

M.A.U.A.G. is a ghost story. It’s our only song so far that is anecdotal like that. It’s about someone who sees a girl and feels compelled to follow her. She leads him into a house, and he realizes she isn’t what she seems. He wants to run away, but finds himself lost in the house, being tormented by this ghost. Eventually, he finds his way to the door but realizes he really doesn’t want to leave. He wants to stay there with her.

Who and how many people worked on it?

I wrote the majority of the instrumentals, and Lamberto helped me tidy those up. Nick and Jon did production, and Nick and I wrote the lyrics in the studio.

What is the band working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?

We have a lot more in store. We have a couple more songs coming out over the next few months, another music video, and then we’ll be back in the studio later this year to record some more. There will be some special collaborations, acoustic versions, and more. We’re also planning on starting live shows soon!

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

There is more to existence than you might think. Look deeper. We are all on this mortal part of our journey together, and we hope the ShallowSky community can help along the way. That’s why we always sign messages to our fans with “For Those Who Seek More”. That’s what we’re all about, and we’re happy that people want to be a part of this with us.
