Sdar Lotus is a United States, Fort Lauderdale based singer and songwriter who is well versed in the arts of upbeat, euphoric and relaxing sounds. Sdar Lotus has just released an original single titled “Transcendental”. We had a few questions and answers with her. Below are exclusive details on Sdar Lotus and her new release.
What is the story behind your stage name Sdar Lotus?
My artist’s name is Sdar Lotus. Just like in my new release I say, ‘I am earth’ – Lotus, which signifies something rising from earth and mud becoming a beautiful flower, and ‘I am sky’ Sdar- which represents the cosmos, the heavens. Also representing higher and lower chakras.
What got you into music?
I’ve been singing my whole life. In high school I sang in music competitions, cantored at my local church, and sang at weddings and funerals around the area. It took me a while to find the right connections to start making my own music, but once I found my producer, Eha Rouge, everything fell into place.
How would you describe the music you typically create?
Genre wise I’m all over the place. Some of my music is really upbeat and fun, while others songs are more meditative and deep. I try to keep my lyrics positive because words are energy and studies such as Dr. Masaru Emoto’s studies on water, which we are mostly made of, have shown the positive and negative effects of words on our system. Adding positive affirmations to Crystal Alchemy sound bowls, which is what most of my Beats are based on, creates a beautiful combination to recharge the energetic system.
Which song do you feel is the best music you’ve ever released and why?
Right now, I’d have to say Third Eye Activation is one of my favourite releases. The journey within this song takes you on is amazing and you can really lose yourself in it.
What feelings or reactions do you hope to arouse in people who listen to your music? Are you surprised by the reactions you get?
I hope to sooth the central nervous system and create connectivity in the chakras and energetic system, all while providing catchy melodic tunes. Most people have never heard music made the way I’ve been creating the last few years and are surprised with how at peace they feel when they listen to my more meditative tracks.
If you could have your fans remember one thing about you, what would it be?
I would want them to remember my artistic expression, and be inspired to be their full authentic self.
How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
I feel it has impacted it in a positive way. Now you can listen to so many independent artists putting out amazing work and we’re not just stuck with mainstream music on the radio.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?
I am a multi-dimensional artist. I am a Reiki Master, Crystal Alchemy Sound Bowl, and Crystal Chakra Healer. I also create beautiful crystal jewellery, I have been a professional makeup artist for 15 years, and I do photography and editing. I love animals and help find stray kittens in my community forever homes. I love to read about spirituality and am also an Energy Codes Facilitator under Dr. Sue Mortor’s program. I have a passion for gardening and have created my own lil urban farm and am working to be more self-sustainable.
Which famous musicians do you admire?
To be honest I admire a lot of amazing local musicians I know more than anything, my producer Eha Rouge, MC ME, Elexis Ansley, Miranda Shines, The Dawn, Sam Krow, Queen of Fairies, Bloodsopure, Nad Pitt, Yuani Rose, Cornwallis, 9000 Suns, to name a few spectacular South Florida artists. I’ve also loved Rising Appalachia, Dustin Thomas, Trevor Hall, Jhene Aiko, Doja Cat, The Beatles, Russ, Steve Perry of Journey, Don Henley of the Eagles, and many others.
Describe your favourite and least favourite part about being a musician.
I absolutely love the creative parts, making beats, writing lyrics, creating visuals. I put a lot of energy into my art, but I’m not always the best at the social media aspects, like posting very often.
What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next 5 to 10 years?
I see myself creating an online platform where I can give sound healing sessions and musical shows for all to tune in. Also giving live performances where I mix my Crystal Alchemy Sound Bowls with other live instruments and really getting to be creative with makeup, wardrobe, and visuals to create a whole experience.
What is this new release about?
In this new release I create a binaural beat with my Alchemy Bowls at the Heart chakra. This not only brings the brain into a theta state, but also balances the right and left hemispheres of the brain and activates the heart. Lyrics bring you into a magical scene, reminding us all that we are collectively transcending and expanding, and how unique and precious our souls are in co-creating the reality we wish to be in.
Who and how many people worked on it?
Me and my producer Eha Rouge created this track in my home studio.
What are you working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?
I’ll be releasing a few more singles in the future actually, so look out for those!
If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?
Take a deep belly breath. The times we are in right now can be very stressful. But by taking a deep belly breath instead of splatting your energy out, you bring the energy back onto yourself because you create Photon density within your system when you’re focusing on yourself and your breath. Taking a deep belly breath will help your parasympathetic nervous system relax and take you out of the state of fight or flight, which is when you’re breathing up in your upper lobes of your lungs instead of taking those deep belly breaths. This will have you feeling much more centred and ready to take on anything the universe throws at you!
