Follow Sarafin on: Website, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

When did you decide to pursue music as a career?

When I was 12-13 years old I enjoyed rapping to a lot of songs and knew a lot of lyrics. That’s when I first started rapping. It wasn’t until I was 17 and one of the first people who supported me got murdered and I vowed to take it more seriously as he said “you got something bro your going to do something big “

How would you describe the music you typically create?

When I’m being creative, I try to be as honest with myself as possible. Meaning I reflect on who I hear on it or what the mood is portraying and I just start freestyling until something hits. Reflective, hopeful, celebratory music.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

Big Sean, Mos def, chance the rapper, Kanye west j.Cole, Drake

What’s your creative process like?

As previously mentioned, I always catch a vibe with whoever I’m creating with and try to be as honest with my surroundings as possible. Musically and personally if we are collaborating. Music creation should be fun.

What feelings, subjects, or concepts inspire you as an artist?

Situations of adversity, injustice, growth, accomplishments, happiness, pain, and resilience.

What is the best advice you’ve been given in relation to music?

Focus on what works for you and who you are. Live and learn and most importantly believe in yourself.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I’m currently a recording engineer here. Calgary I run a studio and mentor a few artists. Producing and helping set up records for marketing.

What has been the high point of your career so far?

I’ve gotten to tour Canada with Raekwon and opened up for some legendary hip-hop acts like De la soul and naughty by nature. But the highlight I would say is having a family of friends that believe, support, and push me to keep doing more!

Which musician would you like to collaborate with?

Chance the rapper or Dave.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

The industry is what it is but I would like to see a mass migration in streaming platforms to a more supportive artist-based streaming service. Currently, artists receive $3.80cdn per 1,000 streams on average.

What is this new release about?

This song was reminiscent of my returning home to Calgary after living in Toronto for 5 years. Coincidentally, Junia T, I met in Toronto through elmnt. Junia was visiting Calgary to guest speak at an electronic music conference so during his time here we got together and started cooking.

Hi-nd and 10 at 10 hosted the studio session which we filmed and had an instant hit. I speak about my time and how it’s weighed on me to pursue this dream of being an artist. And as I’m living out my dream I want to remind myself and my listeners of the morals that got me here.

Who and how many people worked on it?

We had about 4/5 people who worked on this track.

Junia -t who produced it

Elmnt who hopped in the second verse

Myself

And J. grooves

What are you working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?

For now, I’m going to be working on a few singles and might drop something within the next year regarding a project.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Stay true to yourself, explore the things you wish to explore and don’t let people Hinder you from your true self. God bless
