What’s your official Stage Name (showbiz name)?

Pena, sometimes known as Alutepena.

Follow Pena on: Website, Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube and Instagram.

What do you do (fashion, music, comedy, artist, dancer, etc.)?

I’m a singer/songwriter and occasionally sing accompanied by a Ukulele.

How did you get into what you do (music, modelling, art, dance, etc.?)

I’ve been dipping in and out of music since my teens. The past five years I’ve decided to take music more seriously, with this year (2022) marking the launch of Lethia’s Natorium (my project with a band line-up).

What field or genre are you into and give a brief description of what your career/profession/ field feels like?

It varies depending on the project but in relation to Lethia’s Natorium: Progressive Symphonic Goth Punk Rock with a slice of reggae-fusion for good measure. I love the guitar driven sound and the energy it brings.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why?

I grew up listening to Toyah, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Blondie and later on Neneh Cherry, Bjork, Kate Bush and Tori Amos. I was inspired by strong female artists who have an attitude in getting their message across. In addition, I was very much into Two Tone so bands such as Madness, The Selector, The Specials. Post two-tone The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Muse and Space. Yes, you could say I have a very eclectic choice in terms of music inspiration.

How many projects do you have so far?

I have three projects at the moment. There is my solo work (which is a bit mellower than ‘Lethia’s Natorium’, mainly ballads and sad songs for which I released an album last year). My other project is mainly a semi-instrumental one, a completely different genre to ‘Lethia’s Natorium’ with many of the tracks adopting the whole ‘wall of sound’ effect. This is still unfinished as I prefer not to rush that particular project. The debut album for that particular project (‘Heartfelt Dreamland’) will be completed – eventually.

What is this new release about?

‘Inner Child’ relates to all of us whereby, we are all conditioned to do the normal things in a way, we are wearing invisible chains. Many of us have stopped following our goals and ambitions just as soon as we’ve reached adulthood in order to get a job, get married, have children and then retire. Why? It’s because it’s what society expects us to do.

Who and how many people worked on it?

All in all, there were four of us on this track (‘Inner Child’). I wrote the song and made a rough home recording of the chords (played on the Uke) against a basic drum track. I then forwarded the home recording over to Josh Elliott (at JGE Recording Studios, in Dorset) who added the guitar and bass parts. I have been collaborating remotely with Josh and between the two of us, adopted the Lethia’s Natorium ‘sound’ (guitar driven Symphonic Goth Punk). It is his guitar and bass parts that you hear on the track itself. After Josh, I brought the recording to Max Read (at The Lodge Recording Studio, Northampton) who tidied up what was recorded so far and at that point, I re-recorded the vocals. Karl Thompson came into the studio to record his drums onto the track.

What can your previous and new audiences anticipate from you in the future?

More from ‘Lethia’s Natorium’ will follow as this is only the beginning.
