What’s your official stage name and why did you choose it?

My stage name is “henry K”, and there’s actually a story behind it. Being born in South America, my real name is Henrique – always confusing people on how to say it or spell it. Due to that, my nickname has always been Henry, and “henry K” was a way I found to easily explain to people how to properly say my real name. That’s why I decided to adopt this stage name.

When did you decide to pursue music as a career?

I have always loved music, since I was very young. I remember when I was around 8 years old and my grandma gave me an old acoustic guitar that she never used. Since then, I couldn’t stop playing guitar and took lessons for years – even writing a few songs back then. However, it was only during the 2020 pandemic that my passion for music took over, and I knew that music is what I want to do for the rest of my life. One year later, I quit the job I hated and started releasing music.

How would you describe the music you typically create?

I definitely have a certain style and characteristics that are present on all of my songs – be that my songwriting or even the instrumentals that I choose. Many of my songs are completely different from each other, with some having a more modern beat and others sounding like 2000’s rock. However, I definitely lean towards a pop-rock sound, with pop-punk and alt. rock influences.

Who (living or dead) inspires you as an artist and why?

I legitimately feel that I am inspired by every song I listen to. Sometimes a song is completely different from my type of sound, but certain elements (drums, guitar tones, etc) always inspire me and give me a new idea for songs. Nonetheless, there are a handful of artists that I consistently look up to and feel motivated by, such as: Oliver Tree, KennyHoopla, Linkin Park, and blink-182.

What’s your creative process like?

This is a great question. I’m always fascinated by how the creative process varies from artist to artist. For me, it all starts with melodies. I usually sit down and just start playing my guitar, writing down chord progressions and cool riffs. From there I can get an idea of what I want from that song, and after putting together a simple instrumental, I write the lyrics. I like to feel what type of vibe each song gives out, and from there the process flows naturally

What feelings, subjects or concepts inspire you as an artist?

I generally like to deal with more serious subjects in my songs, especially focusing on mental health and relationships. However, I also feel that it is important to have songs that are simple and relatable to most people, something you can just play in the car and make everybody shake their heads. This is when I make songs such as “Stay”, a light and vibey song.

What is the best advice you’ve been given in relation to music?

This advice took me a while to understand: “don’t focus on the numbers, focus on the music and on the people”. Nowadays it’s all about streaming, social media, and followers. You can really get caught up in that, and that’s not good. Focus on the music, and the people supporting you, the rest comes naturally with time.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

When I’m not doing music-related stuff, I really like to watch tv shows and travel. Right now, I’m re-watching some old series like “Chuck”, “The Office”, and “Lost”. As far as traveling, I just came back from a trip to Brazil (where I’m from).

Which musician would you like to collaborate with?

The more music I make, the more people I want to work with. There are a lot of great small artists that I talk to, and a lot of features are coming. But if there is one person who I really hope to collaborate with one day, it would be Travis Barker. I consider him a legend and an inspiration, and hopefully one day I can make that happen.

What is this new release about?

I wrote this song based on a relationship with someone special, someone who I needed to “Stay” in my life. It deals with a relationship that is about to break, as one side tries to fix it. I hope you can relate to it and enjoy it!

Who and how many people worked on it?

I actually wrote, performed, and fully produced this song. I’m very proud of that, as this is one of my best songs yet..

What are you working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?

I have a couple of songs planned for release throughout this year. One of them comes out very soon and it is called “Sold My Soul”. You should definitely stay tuned for it.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for supporting my dream! I’ll never forget those who were with me from the start.
