Nolan, sometimes known as Foley in the music industry, is a Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, composer and producer who is well-versed in the arts of pop music. Back in March, Foley released an original tune named “Disappointed,” which speaks about not following the life or professional pathways that society and our guardians intend for us, but instead selecting the ones that make us pleased and happy at the end of the day. We had a good time with a few questions and answers with Foley. Continue reading to learn more about this incredible musician and his new single “Disappointed.”

What’s your official stage name and why did you choose it?

I go by FOLEY, the reason behind it is because my real name is Nolan but people have called me Noley my whole life. I thought Noley felt a little childish for a stage name, something about it didn’t feel right, so I took the F from my last name (Forghani) and just made it Foley.

Follow Foley on: Facebook, Twitter, Soundcloud, YouTube and Instagram.

When did you decide to pursue music as a career?

I was about 15 years old when I knew I wanted to make a living with music.

How would you describe the music you typically create?

My music is honest. My music is versatile, and it is original. In terms of genres, my stuff is all over the place which is what makes it so different. I go with whatever I am feeling at the moment and sometimes it’s a slower/softer ballad or sometimes an upbeat party anthem. We all have different moods and emotions as humans that influence us to listen to different types of music, so I feel creatively free to make different types of music depending on how I am feeling.

Who (living or dead) inspires you as an artist and why?

RUSS is one of my biggest inspirations as an artist just given his path. His attitude and mindset have helped me so much, it’s not so much about the music but more the approach to handling this career as an independent artist.

What’s your creative process like?

There’s nothing crazy about my process and it is very random. I don’t work with any engineers, producers, or writers or anything so when inspiration comes, I just try to capture it at that moment instead of planning it. I usually will just start with a beat and go for a walk while playing it on loop. By the time I get back to my house I usually have a pretty good idea of what the song will be about. I then sit down in front of a mic and start free-styling, recording piece by piece until the song is done.

What feelings or reactions do you hope to arouse in people who listen to your music? Are you surprised by the reactions you get?

I always want people to feel inspired, I want people to hear my music and think “maybe I could do this.” I want them to look at me and my career as a reason to not give up in their personal endeavors. I also hope it gives people a sense of comfort, when speaking on certain vulnerable emotions I want my fans to know they are not alone in whatever it is they are going through.

What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next five to ten years?

I see myself touring and traveling a lot over the next few years, building a fan base from the ground up and using that platform to create a business that will allow others to do the same.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

I am a huge sports guy; I played every sport growing up and even played basketball in college. More recently I became completely addicted to Golf and I can’t get enough! If I’m not in the studio you can easily find me in the gym or on a golf course.

What has been the high point of your career so far?

So far, the highlight of my career would probably be getting too open for Sage the Gemini in front of about 1,200 people.

Which musician would you like to collaborate with?

I would love to do a song with mike. Jon Bellion, Chelsea Cutler or Russ. I’ve had huge influences from all of them along with many others.

What is this new release about?

The whole concept around the song is based on the idea that I never chose the normal life path that most of our parents would like us to take. I’ve lived a very non-conventional lifestyle that has been hard for my family to deal with and I’m sure sometimes they wish I chose a safer career. But at the end of the day through all the struggle and disappointment I know I’m happy with what I’m doing and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Who and how many people worked on it?

Just me!

What are you working on next? Any future plans or projects in the pipeline that we should look out for?

I have TONS of music coming, just making some final touches here and there while planning out a release strategy. Not sure If I should release a bunch of singles or package some into a project.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be?

Keep Going
