Follow Iuliano As He Talks About Music And His New Release

Iuliano’s personal vision as an artist has come full circle after spending so much time arranging and producing for others. Continue reading to find out more about this impeccable artist and his new Release.

What is your real name

Mauro Iuliano

What’s your official Stage Name (showbiz name)

Iuliano

What do you do (fashion, music, comedy, artist, dancer, etc.)

Music

How did you get into music?

It happened as nature has a baby asking for food, so my soul did for music. I could never spot a specific moment.

Give a brief description of what the music field feels like [to you].

Incomprehensible, and so it is to whoever I talked to. Many successful people told me that they did not have the slightest idea of the time and, indeed, they were always wrong about the song that led them to be recognized. I guess the forces that guide the actions of humans are too numerous to be predictable: so we can only be what we are hoping we find ourselves in when the moment is right.

Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why??

I am the only inspiration I have. That does not mean I have no influences. Anything around me affects me, but the mixture of unique experiences, how they blend together, and the order of those happenings, give me that specific motivation and inspiration that creates my music.

What was your first project and the people you worked with and which year?

In 94, while attending the “Berklee College of Music,” I was proposed with Pino Jodice (now mainly an extensively recognized orchestra jazz conductor) to sign a recording contract with A & D, An Italian label run by Toni Verde. He primarily produced commercial music at that time; however, his past was way more into alternative music. That was my start in the recording field.

How many projects do you have so far?

Iuliano is the only project I am currently working on, and I am about to release the second EP. As an artist, this is the third one; I cannot really remember how many as a producer.

How long have you been doing what you do?

As I mentioned earlier, I started out in 94 as a singer. Slowly but steadily, I started songwriting, arranging, producing, mixing. I took a couple of rests when I got too discouraged, but music is not something you can get rid of; it just lives with you.

What do you look out for in this line of business?

I stopped looking for results. I do what I like when I like it, and I only do it to express the uncontainable emotions that life brings.

Have you won any awards or been nominated for an award? Or in short, any achievement? Both in and out of your [music] career path.

After the release of my first EP as Iuliano, in 2019, I was awarded as the best producer for my category at the “Independent Music Award” in NYC, by a commission directed by Tom Waits and many other incredible musicians like Todd Rundgren, Sananda Maitreya, Robert Smith, and others.

What is this new release about?

It is called De-Algorithm. If you listen to the lyrics or, even more, watch the videos, it seems written to describe the post-pandemic world. In fact, I finished recording it in November 2019. It is a concept EP where the character tries to find its spot in this world without much success. The videos form a single story, and they’re all animated by Zed Walton by hand.

Who and how many people worked on it?

My first Ep “Hidden Roots,” was all played by me besides some minimal parts here and there. Any other aspect was fully realized by me.

In “De-Algorithm,” I tried to collaborate a bit more, so there are Raffaele Vitiello and Gigi Stazio on guitars on a couple of songs and Matteo Di Francesco e Agostino Mennella on drums. Yet, production-wise, it has been all realized by me.

What can your previous and new audiences anticipate from you in the future?

I’m already working on the third EP, and it will be ready by the following summer. I’m collaborating with other splendid musicians like Alessandro De Berti e Livio Magnini this time. But, even more importantly, I’m setting up a live concert with stunning musicians, a piece of the puzzle I do miss in my career so far.
