After gaining traction from TikTok, she decided to unleash her first single. Skylar Eclipse, a 20-year-old up and coming musician from Los Angeles has a genuine spark in her talent. She dabbles with singing, songwriting, and music production since one isn’t enough for someone like her. She began producing music when she was ten years old. Following her parents’ divorce, she utilized poetry and piano to cope, which eventually grew into a songwriting habit.
Skylar has been greatly impacted by rave/EDM culture and a variety of bands, including the Red-Hot Chili Peppers, Fleetwood Mac, No Doubt, and Sublime. And musical artists such as Dido, Kid Cudi, and Hippie Sabotage, who all come from different genres but are able to transport their audience on a trip with creative lyrical and instrumental choices.
Her debut, “Seventeen,” was inspired by reminiscing about her upbringing, namely a summer when she was 17 years old. Skylar was sad throughout her adolescence and early infancy due to an absent father and a drug-addicted mother. She, on the other hand, was able to make the most of her youth and often reflects on the fantastic times she had when she was 17.
“Seventeen” was written from the viewpoint of a young adult struggling to leave youth behind. The conflicting combination of sad/emotional lyrics and a warm/upbeat accompaniment and tune represents the range of feelings one experiences as they mature. A moment that is both thrilling and full of possibilities, but also terrifying and lonely. A relevant story told with a unique style and delivery.
With this new single, Skylar Eclipse reveals herself to be one of the best singer/songwriters in the L.A. pop underground. A young girl with mature vocals, “Seventeen” is certainly one of the most impressive indie singles that I’ve listened to in a while.
