Emancipating Yourself With Directions From Dying Habit

Dying Habit are a groove-led alternative rock band held together by 4 great musicians. With their base in North wales the band is focused on great music to stand the test of time, not just a regular song.

With Nate Jones coming in the vocals, and Mark jones on the drums, Dan Garner is in possession of the Bass with Alan Hart on the guitars, with this combination Dying habit never ceases to create elegant songs.

Dying Habit are also a captivating and engaging live act who have played many shows in the North West of England as well as closer to home in North Wales. The live shows
are a great place to see the expert musicianship and craft that lovingly goes into their work and to take in the emotion and energy that their art creates.

Their debut single in 2018’s “Unrealities” is a haunting and soaring anthem for the
times which earned great feedback and is still a live favorite to this day. This was followed by an Album, 2020’s “Until the air runs out” which was the result of imaginative work all written and recorded by the band themselves while in lockdown.

The band begun 2022 by heading into the studio with renowned producer Al Groves (Bring Me The Horizon) to record new single “Directions”, On this track they showcase
a harder edge to their sound, invoking the spirit of 90’s grunge with huge riffs, thunderous drums and a hooky melodic chorus.

Directions explores different perspectives on toxic relationships and how they can turn a once beautiful soul into hate and despair, how a journey filled will hope and aspiration can take us deep into the darkest depths of ourselves where we can no longer see why we are still there in the first place.

The Band had some more to share about their musical growth and personal experiences in a latest interview with Mister Styx Of Musicarenagh

What is your stage name

Dying Habit

Is there a story behind your stage name?

Nothing special, we have had the name a long time so just stuck with it.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration is everywhere, We’ve always loved and felt inspired by the music we loved growing up and then by the music we play together now. I think we inspire each other.

What was the role of music in the early years of your life?

Music has always felt like a sanctuary and it defines each period of our lives. Our love of music is why we came together to form the band in the first place. That will never leave us.

Are you from a musical or artistic family?

Not really no

Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?

Mostly just because we love what we do but its more rewarding when you share that love with other people and get the buzz back from them.

Emancipating Yourself With Directions From Dying Habit

How did you learn to sing/write/to play?

All learnt instruments at a young age, songwriting came naturally, its a lot more rewarding to play things you write yourself than to mimic others.

What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform?

Therapy? in Manchester, always been a big inspiration

How could you describe your music?

heavy melodic rock with some unexpected twists

Describe your creative process.

Usually songs start with the basic structure and idea on guitar and then the vocals come afterwards. Everybody then writes their own parts around that and we jam it out until we feel its perfect. .

What is your main inspiration?

Anything can inspire a song, a mood, a emotion or feeling or just hearing other great bands. I don’t think we have a main inspiration, its whatever moves us to write a piece of music or to write lyrics that convey a feeling or image.

What musician do you admire most and why?

any musicians who stay loyal to making original music that they want to make,

Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?

Yes, I think we have evolved with experience of writing and playing live. Live you can see what songs transfer best to an audience.

Who do you see as your main competitor?

We believe in what we do rather than needing to have any rivals but we would like to fight the corner for bands playing original music as opposed to all the tribute and cover bands that seem to be everywhere right now

What are your interests outside of music?

I think we all have different interests, from the outdoors to art to sports.

If it wasn’t a music career, what would you be doing?

still making music!

What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?
Just getting yourself heard, finding people who will support good original music and get it out there.

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?

At the moment we need more income revenues for young bands, surely there should be other ways of making money from music rather than just selling t-shirts. More government support for grass roots music venues would help too. All the money is in the 0.01% of huge acts and everyone else has to struggle. Which pretty much resembles society at the minute.

Why did you choose this as the title of this project?

‘Directions’ comes from the lyrics of the song, Listeners can read what they want into the lyrics, they paint vivid colorful imagery and i think are very relatable to large numbers of people.

What are your plans for the coming months?

We will be gigging regularly in North Wales and the North West. Then hopefully another single this winter.

Do you have any artistic collaboration plans?

None at the moment. Happy working as we are.

What message would you like to give to your fans?

Please give us a follow on social media and if your into us then spread the word, We will have more music out soon.
