Cielo Pordomingo is an Argentinian composer, vocalist, and producer who has been in Mexico City since 2003.
Her music is a reflection of her spirit, combining electronic rhythms with symphonic components. I think Cielo Pordomingo is one of the best and most accomplished musicians in the indie music community.
We see a more personal side of Cielo here, as she opens up about what it’s like to live and love and be loved via the music she makes, and the sentiments she feels for the people she loves.
The Argentine singer, songwriter, and producer, who is based in Querétaro, Mexico, took advantage of the downtime during her travels to create a collection of songs that are both private and contemplative, with a heavy dose of infectious electronic beats.
A brand new album by Cielo called “Blinkerland” is now available. ‘Blinkerland’ is a collection of nine heartfelt songs, ranging from acceptance to sorrow, restlessness to optimism.
Gustavo Mozzi and Manuel Schaller collaborated with the Argentine composer on this album’s tracks. The album’s first track is titled Wake Up.
Her first album D FRET was released in 2013, and she wrote all of the music, lyrics, vocals, and orchestration herself. Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States all gave her positive reviews.
She spoke openly about her music career, forthcoming projects, aspirations, and objectives in a quick conversation.
What is your real and showbiz name?
Cielo: My real name is Cielo Pordomingo, curiously, the uniqueness of the real name invited me to take it as an artistic name.
Where are you from (hometown)?
Cielo: I´m from Santa Rosa, La Pampa, Argentina.
How did you get into music?
Since I was a little girl, with ballet classes, I loved stories and classical music, therefore, my music always has orchestral elements. Later, I studied piano at the Conservatory and did my first musical theatre works.
Later, in Buenos Aires, I had training in orchestration, and I started to work arranging and collaborating on other people’s projects until I decided to record my own music, music that I had saved and wanted to bring it out into the world.
Once the first album, D FRET, came out in 2013, I realized that I had to play it live, and I liked it, from then on I didn’t stop composing and playing until today when I’m releasing my fourth album BLINKERLAND.
What field or genre are you into and give a brief description of what your field feels like?
My music is an electronic-orchestral fusion, merging electronic rhythms with orchestral elements, covering genres from triphop, baroque pop, alternative dance, big beat and classical music. I believe my music reflects my soul, and together with my affections, is the energy that allows me to breathe, live, love and communicate with the world.
Who or what inspires you or motivates you? And why??
Art, especially cinema and theatre, and I enjoy listening to the music of different genres. Also, the stories of other people, and life experiences that produce strong emotions in me; I don’t know why, but those strong emotions that somehow run through me.. always end up becoming songs.
What does your current song/album mean to you?
This new single Wake Up is an invitation to get up and move on and keep walking, even if everything seems to be falling apart. To continue creating and carrying out your projects, even though everything seems against you. It is an invitation to continue dancing together until you fly.
What do you do aside from this profession?
Cielo: Today, I am fortunate to be able to dedicate myself fully to my music. I train my voice at least three times a week, I take classes in body expression and Feldenkrais. I am always taking workshops in music production, and in the evening I give vocal training online.
What are your hobbies?
Walking, trekking, being in contact with nature and much better if it’s drinking mate! Cooking for my friends, which, I do quite a lot, and travelling.
