The Brand New Me – Kwame Truuth
Kwame Asante is a Ghanaian hip pop artist and a graphic designer based in Kumasi popularly known as Kwame Truuth. His lyrical attitude with the microphone got him featured on “Boss Mode” one of the biggest cyphers to ever hit Oseikrom hosted by Boss Africa which also featured Shaike Munzoo, Mistik, B Bone, Ben Brainy and Jay Stormy.
He has been in the entertainment industry for quite some years. Born Kwame Awua-Boateng. He had his basic education at University Primary school and University JHS and then Mfantsipim School, He furthered his higher education to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
“Sneaking into my brother’s room to listen to his CD collection (mostly hip hop and rnb) was supposed to be some sort of a notorious adventure for kid, little did I know it would set me on a path much fulfilling. It’s been wanting to be a part of that force since then and the growth has been nothing but amazing.” He said.
Hooked up with a couple of friends in Junior High School to perform at the school’s variety shows and that led to his first studio recording in senior high. Worked on his songwriting and deliveries during college and started working on few songs afterwards. Kwame Asante was the name he used to be known by then, which after deciding to stay to his roots so ditched the English name he was using.
Kwame is an Ashanti name given to all Saturday Male Born. Asante, as its name suggest, is the local name given/for the Ashanti people from the Ashanti region. The need to have a name the locals can relate to and make it easily pronounced and a household name was very key and that somehow got him grounded and know among his fellows in the industry, giving the chance to blend local and foreign melodies.
Being a graphic designer, blending elements to create something new and peculiar made this experience all too fun. When asked in an interview with Martin Donaldson Daisy (Mr Daisy) of musicarenagh.com why the sudden name change from Kwame Asante to Kwame Truuth, this is what he had to say.
“Kwame Truuth is a Simple name, and this clearly gives indications that I am staying true to myself, my beliefs, my art, my passion. We are in a world where people do whatever it takes to get the likes and attention, no matter how false it is. I want to stand out and have the world recognize me for me and not some conceived perception of me. The name change is a conscious attempt to work on music people can really relate with, draw inspiration, leave a positive impact.”
Currently, he is working on his Debut EP, titled The Reinvention of which he recently released a single ahead of the forthcoming Extended Play Grind which featured colleagues Blurricane and Mys Araya Gh. Grind is a tune that talks about the hustle artists go through all just to make it to the mainstream.
Even with all the Tough Times, they are not willing to give up their passion and nothing is going to change or brainwash them. This project tends to centres on faith, love, and inspiration. The desire to make something of one’s self and leaving the world a better place.
