Alan Peck Released Super-Edgy Single He Titled ‘Dazed’

Chicago native and American musical virtuoso Alan Peck has been making music since he was young.

He practised the piano for seven years before finally giving in to the realisation that singing was his true calling and actively seeking out audition opportunities. Alan faced a lot of opposition, yet he kept working toward his goal.

Because of his time spent performing and travelling with the Grammy-winning gospel choir The Soul Children of Chicago, his horizons were broadened and his life was enriched in ways for which he will be eternally thankful.

Following the track’s engrossing live instrumentation, “Dazed” pits infatuation against real love, with the listener free to place themselves wherever along the spectrum.

The song may be titled “Dazed,” but it’s intended to have precisely the opposite effect. This song, featuring soulful singers who bend and harmonise their voices, is destined to become a modern classic, marking a turning point for R&B and setting the tone for what’s to come.

Alan Peck spoke with MrrrDaisy, discussing his musical upbringing and his new album, “Dazed.”

What is your real and showbiz name?
My real name is Alan Peck and my showbiz name is the same!

What would you say is your greatest strength as an artist?
I’d say my greatest strength is my songwriting as well as the ability to tell a story.

What is your creative process when making music?
Every song I write is based on an ideal world, or sometimes just an alternate universe. My imagination is expansive, so I just think of varying scenarios and write songs around the idea or in some cases, the reality of them. Sometimes, I’ll hear a melody in my head and write the story around it after taking it to a producer to actually mould the beat, but other times I’ll go on Beatstars and listen to different beats until I find one I vibe with.

How long have you been making music and what attracted you to it?
I’ve been making music since I was 13 years old—music has always electrified my spirit and moved me in an indescribable way. Growing up as an only child, it’s been something I could always depend on to lift me up and every song I listened to was a different world in which I could escape via the storytelling behind the music.

What is the biggest challenge you have had to overcome as a band/artist so far?
Self-doubt has always been one of my greatest obstacles. It was easy for me to get lost in comparisons and not feel like my style wasn’t good enough, but I’ve had a surge of confidence over the years, but it ebbs and flows.

What streaming sites do you think offer the most value to a band?
I think Tidal, Spotify, and Soundcloud are honestly the most beneficial to any artist.

How do you think social media or the internet has affected the music scene in your country?
The internet or social media has definitely allowed room for more artists to claim space whereas before, in the age of CDs and cassettes, access was more difficult. The advantage of social media is being able to get your music worldwide in seconds.

What are your friend’s and parents’ thoughts on your career?
My friends and my mom have been very supportive of my career over the years. Not everyone understands the vision, but one of my favourite Tabitha Brown quotes basically says that your life calling wasn’t a conference call, so not everyone is going to understand the message.

What does your current song mean to you?
Dazed means so much to me. At its inception, it was great and easy to write, but technically it took me a while to figure out how I wanted the song to move and sound, and it took me the most time to complete compared to other songs. I’d say resilience, love, and patience come to mind when thinking of Dazed.

What is one message you would give to your fans?
I’d tell people to really pursue whatever it is they can’t stop thinking about. If you have a passion, or a desire to find out what your passion is, there’s no better time to act on it than now. You’re never going to be younger than you are today, and may not have as much time as you’ll have today, so make plans to accomplish what brings your soul joy.
